Active or Passive Cross-over?

Currently i have a some JBL components (608C's) in my truck but, but i am currently thinking about purchasing a RF 3sixty.3. My main question is since i am already using components does it even make since to make the purchase unless i change my front stage speakers? I know it is kind of a vague question with many different variables but to keep in context if you are currently using a passive cross-over would going active give you any benefits as far as sound quality?

You can but I personally wouldn't unless I bought speakers for an active front stage as well.

I was figuring as much but i thought that i would ask to see if i could confirm my own suspicions. I may change out my components for different speakers that has been on my mind for awhile now since i just upgraded my front stage amp from the mbquart to a c1104.4, think it may be a little to much for those 2 ohm jbl's, but thanks for your reply.

You have everything you need in your head unit without the aid of a processor ... So I do not see where the RF 3sixty.3 will help you in any way.

The cross over was designed to give a certain frequency response in a specific environment. Maybe your environment is different or maybe you just don't like the designed response. An active equalizer can be used to compensate being you already have them. If you didn't already own them it would be cheaper in the long run to do an active set up from the beginning.

Without knowing what you want/need to improve it will only make them sound worse, of course the opposite is true as well

Thanks for the replies. To be honest i was just looking at the pro and cons of going one way or the other, nothing in particular which is why the question was pretty general and vague. Gonna stay the way i have my system hooked up with a passive setup although i think i will be changing out my jbl comps for something different. But thanks for your replies they were appreciated.

Same situation with the comps.  Any particular reason you want to change them?  If so, perhaps that can be solved running active.  If not, what is the motivation to change?  I will give you a hint: for something to sound better there needs to be something that changes, determining what you'd like to change is always the first step in any upgrade.

As stated your hu is already active capable. The RF would be a serious step up though. Run the comps active with your hu and see how you like it. Then make the call if you feel the need to take it a step further.
