possible electrica issue

Recommended Posts

Hello all, my set up is pretty basic..kenwood radio and eq, kicker 1200 mono class d amp for my jl 13w7 and kenwood 100x4 interior amp. Also I have a optima red top under the hood and a stinger battery in the trunk all ran with 0 gauge from and I did the big 3. I still have the stock 100 amp alt which im replacing with a 180 amp and also, I never play my system with the car not running. Right now my lights dim and at night when I press the gas pedal my lights get brighter, so will the new alt stop that? And whats the highest that I should have the gain on my sub amp? Thanks in advance for any help

I'm runnin 2400 rms on a 90 amp alt Big 3 and 1 xs d3400. At full tilt my truck can hold 13.4. Lights do not dim.

Can hardly get the battery meter in the cluster to drop.

Maybe something is loose somewhere. Start at the battery.

When you say they get brighter when you rev the engine are you at idle before you rev it up?

Thanks everyone, when I pull off and get to a stop sign and start again I can see the head lights get a little brighter. Also if im at idle, the seat belt and shift lights do the same thing especially when I put a turn signal on. All wires on big 3 are secure this is why I figured it may be the alternator cause my car is a 98 which I brought in 01 and it has the factory alt still. Im waiting on the mail with my 180 amp alt today and im hoping this helps out.

It may help some but even high output alternators dont charge much at idle.

Just went to the car to check the amp and the gain is all the way up, I remember someone telling me to keep it turned up and just us the bass knob up front to adjust the base...I take it that was bad advice...lol or does it make a difference since the bass knob is coming directly from the amp itself, personally I thought it was the same as the gain but I guess not.

No you set your gain to where it needs to be. Then the bass knob allows you to turn the bass down and up to where the gain is set.

Wow...boy was I told wrong, so since I never play my system with the car off, should I remove the second battery to put less work on the alt? No wonder the lights are dimming since the gain is all the way up.

you guys are a big help

x2. You need to learn how to set your gain properly!

Also your ssf filter etc.

Just play your system and turn gain down until your lights are sort of "happy with you" if thy makes sense

Ask for help on how to set your gain. I am not good at explaining it.

Maybe start a new thread asking about it.eek5wavey.gif
