Help with big 3 on 2004 Isuzu Rodeo 3.5L

I am doing the big 3 on my 2004 Rodeo and have ran into a slight snag.  I am hoping somebody on here has some advice.

 

I am using 1/0 AWG weling cable from Airgas (Radnor Flex-A-Prene) .  I Grounded the negative battery terminal and the engine to the chassis without issue.  Now I am trying to attach the cable to the charging post on the alternator.  

 

The problem is that the charging post is a tiny bolt, and the lug on the welding cable is huge (http://www.airgas.com/browse/productDetail.aspx?Category=14&product=RAD64002143).  The lug is too thick to be able to re-attach the nut on the charging bolt, and it is coming in contact with the case of the alternator where the charging bolt protrudes from.  I am afraid that even if I manage to get the nut back on it will be grounded.  

 

I considered removing the original wire that was attached to the charging bolt, but it goes straight into my fuse box (supplying it's power I assume).

 

Does anyone have any suggestions?

How many amps does the alt. put out?

It puts out 90 amps.  It's stock.  Let me just tell you what I got here:

 

Kenwood head unit on factory speakers.

 

Soundqubed q1-2200 running a DC level 4 15 (M2) D2

 

4 AWG power wire fused 100A

 

 

Right now I have the sub wired in series, so the amp is putting out 770 watts @ 4 Ohms.  There are no problems at all, no dimming, all good.

 

Before I run 1/0 to the back and hook up the Diehard Platimum 31M I bought, I wanted to finish the big 3.  I think I need as much as I can get out my my electrical plus the extra battery if I'm going to be able to run the sub @ 1 Ohm 2200 Watts.

You're probably right, but all stock on full tilt I only drop to about 13.5V at idle.  Once I get the big 3 finished, run the 1/0 to the back, hook up the diehard platinum in the back, and rewire the sub to 1 Ohm I'll recheck my voltage at the amp.  If it's too low I can get a 180 Amp Alt that bolts on directly.

Will a 4 gauge ring terminal fit? You don't need need 1/0 for 90 amps. You might even get away with 8 gauge.

If your going to one ohm you will need a bigger alt and 0 gauge.

True.  I have some spare 4 AWG at home.  You make a very valid point.  That might be the easiest solution.

I REALLY wanted to fit that square peg into the round hole.  That dang terminal was $7/pair.

Till you go to a one ohm load. then you will need more alt.Output!
