head unit decision

Recommended Posts

I apologize just looking for opinions for the headunit im going to put in my 2012 jeep compass I plan on running components and a sub and 1 if not two amps I am not used to true sound quality ive always done my stereos half assed before truthfully so trying to do it right

don't want touch screen or any unnecessary features

I have an android cell phone for the purposes of features

of my research the unit I like absolutely best is

Pioneer DEH-80PRS

also considering

Kenwood Excelon KDC-X997

Pioneer DEH-X9500BHS

Mainly I like the idea of at least 4v preouts I want to try at least a 9 band equalizer with the time synch and other useful things to increase the sound quality of the signal any recommendations or opinions would be appreciated nothing is set in stone hoping for the budget to stay in the 350 max range but adj can be made

also Bluetooth  is required

Judging by your goals any of those will work for you. The 80prs would give you a lot of flexibility if you upgrade your front stage in the future.

do you have any others you would recommend I couldn't find many others without touchscreen on the high end even after searching I was hoping for opinions on what I picked and additional suggestions im gonna be paying on this jeep for like 5 more years so I wanna do the stereo right and that begins with the source the top of the line alpines I found didn't seem to have as many features how do they compare sound quality wise and what are other good brands and models?

If I were looking for a new unit I would get the kenwood 997, or an 80prs. The pioneer only if you think you would use it's active capabilities.

Love my 80prs. Haven't used any of the others you mentioned and I doubt I will. I like how much control I get with the pioneer. It does have a lot of options that most people don't need. If you have plans for your front stage, plan to go active one day then the 80prs will be a good move. Makes me wish I went active instead of passive

Kenwood and Pioneer are my two choices for current head units. I had a two bad Alpines which left a bad taste in my mouth, but others swear by them. Jvc is decent too.

yea I think I will as soon as cash comes in I just wanted to make sure there weren't any I was over looking it seemed to be the most solid and versatile choice now I just gotta figure out how I want to install it etc due to my jeep being canbus and I don't want the factory amp or wiring for my stereo though im slightly attached to the input for my speedometer so if anyone has anyone that has done a head unit install in a 11-12 patriot or compass with the boston system and have eliminated the factory amp as well as ran all new speaker wire while retaining all functionality without that dam expensive adapter id love to pic their brain

Another with the x996. I can honestly say that it is one hell of a headunit for sound quality, but it lacks in the active network. This would be the only advantage to getting the 80. I am currently in the middle of going active and now im stuck knowing i am going to be doing a swap soon. Sometimes it pays to just get what you think you might need vs settling. I never thought i'd be switching until I found a good set of horns and now i've been sucked in lol

yea that was what I was thinking considering I can get both same price why not have the extra potential for expandability for when I can wrap my head around what active is and how to do it lol
