Letter/word frequencies

Recommended Posts

I have Hertz ESK-165.5 components sets in my car. I have my tweeters on -2 on the crossovers, but when there are "S's" and sometimes "F's" they seem very harsh. Everything else sounds fantastic though. Do you know the frequencies so I can turn them down a little? Or is there another way to fix this?

Thanks.

What king of head unit do you have? What amp? And you could always go with a sound processor or a band eq but those can be rather expensive

It's called sibilance. Normally it's in the 4khz-9khz range, where in that range depends on the artists voice and other factors. EQ'ing down the offending frequencies might help, but the problem might not be the driver's themselves. It could be an install issue (such as poor driver aiming) or a reflection that's causing the problem. In which case you'd be better off to fix the install/reflection if possible than trying to EQ it away. For example, some tweeters run a little hot through the midband when the are on-axis and turning them off-axis can smooth out the response.

More details as to the speaker locations/aiming and the vehicle would be helpful.  Also would be helpful to know what EQ functionality you have available to you.

I feel that it is pretty good. But eventually I'll get a external EQ

It's a Pioneer AVH-8400BH. No external amp at the moment.

Okay thanks. I'll try moving the tweeters in different locations.
