Correct trunk Battery

Recommended Posts

I have ordered a D3400 for the trunk and front bat on my car. Should I have gotten the 3100 for the rear. If I read the details correctly it just has a larger AH value which means it should stay charged longer(I believe). If I have made a poor choice please let me know I will be running around 4k on a 270 amp alt. two runs of positive 1/0. Also would it be overkill to have more than one battery in trunk. I realize power is the hole key. Just wanted opinions to help me make correct decision even though I already have the two D3400 just wanted to get third and if the trunk bats are incorrect I will have to sell and order correctly.

You will need a bit more for 4k.

i agree,

make sure you have a volt meter, and just watch your voltage .. what amp?

How much is a bit? two D3100 in trunk or even more?

My amp choices right now are SAZ 3500, Crexcendo 3500, DD M4, or DC 3.5k.

270a alt and 2x3400s

is fine for 4k

4k/12 volts is 333Amps max

so depending on efficiency of the amp your looking at less than 300amps.

The batts are just reserves

would be better to leave the original batt up front

and put the 2 d3400's in the back

If you already have two 34's put them in and watch your voltage like Jon said. If you are dropping low (which I'm sure you will) add another battery and check again.

Volt meter connection point recommendations?

1.   at amp positive neg inputs

2. on rear batteries

3. front battery

4. just use the cigerate location for the reading

or if there is a better location let me know.

Also on the AH value. Is my understanding of it holding a higher current value for a longer period of time?

how bout this lets convert things to watts

65AH*2=130A*14v=1820watts

leave the original batt up front as it will charge faster than the bigger 3400s

and will also add to your AH value

270A*14=3780watts

so total that up 3780watts and 1820watts =5600watts

more than your amp puts out and has room to run acc in the car.

unless you plan on blasting your system with the car off like i said i dont see what the problem would be.

Always put the voltmeter at the amps. You could have a problem and have a large voltage drop and if you are measuring at the source you wouldn't see it.

Buddy smoked an amp that way. Had the meter at the battery and the fuse block terminal loosened up causing the amp to see really low voltage. If he had the meter at the amp he would have seen the problem.
