Sencheezy.....buy an SP4 and report back asap. Okay?

He doesnt have to, a friend of his locally bought one of my old SP4 18's. He could do a direct swap if he wanted to for comparison sakes.

Hey hey.. Don't be bringing me into this sad.png

wait a second.. I haven't heard of any evil's tinsel leads glow red and burst in to flames. I believe i just solved the dilemma. Evil wins /endthread lmfao just kidding. I mean, if it's for testing purposes I might, but we'd also have to factor in the fact that Sencheezy has the d2 vs.. hell iunno if i even tested what impedance these were. What were they again Swift?

Damn now that I think about it. I already have a meter as well. So that would actually make the test fairly umm "fair"?

That one is a d1. He could run it at .5 and just turn down the gain some. Lol

Or run it at 2 ohms on the 5500 and see how she does. Just for fun, lol. Meter both at 30, 35, and 40 hz.

a better questions is WHY are you so hung up on only looking at 4 inch Vc subs...

haveing a 4 inch coil have 0 to do with getting low... and it can not be power handling because you stated you have yet to pick an amp....

so why a 4 inch coil?  do you have something to prove with your coil size

Senchez turning the gain down some? lol yah that'll happen. I'm curious to know if/how much it might change the peak sealed/door open/all doors open as well. I think this just might be a fun test. Dammit Lee.. why man.. why? haha I feel the test might be more appropriate for a slightly smaller enclosure. That box he has now is the size of a small car in dat der explorer.

For the test to make sense it should be defined in rather good detail up front. Really easy to bias a test.

One thing Brad kind of touched on is that, regardless of which sub is being compared to what sub, to do a head to head test in a singular install will only show which is best for that install.  So if said install has more power, or more cabin gain, or a lower resonant frequency, etc. etc. than another, clearly results are going to be different.  ;)

a better idea would be to do a blind comparison to remove personal bias.

Measurements would be easy. I would think subjective listening would require multiple people with trained ears and then a final conclusion for the test to be valid.

Based on product descriptions the soft parts used for the sp4 and evil are the same. The difference seems to be in the motor. The motor and the soft parts yield the same t/s parameters on both drivers.

How much of a difference in maximum spl output and sound quality could there be between these two drivers?

Fs, Cms and Qms are different between the drivers.  Could be a difference due to production tolerances, or it could be a difference in the suspension of the two speakers.

Based on the listed Re the coils are also different.  I know you said "differences seem to be in the motor", but the voice coil is part of the soft part assembly.
