best 4" coil

ok so my friend has a fi sp4 18 ordered and he wants me to get a single 18 setup also with the evil, smd, ect. and if i can find a good deal on them i might buy two or i might buy 2 sp4s what do yall think the best 4" coil sub is right now? ps. im going for low bass and i have enough room for one or two but if i go two im going wall

i did not know this im sure they dont have all the same specs though and im trying to figure out which one is the best to get low on and the sp4 is the cheapest are the other ones worth the extra money?

Different levels of knowledge will form different opinions on woofers, so the best bet when vs them to buy is to educate yourself and form your own opinion to suit your needs.

If I needed a sub to fit in a moderately small enclosure with a low f3 with minimum passband ripple I'd get the SP4. IMO it's the best sub on the market that fits that criteria.

Unless I am not seeing it the Evil and SP4 model nearly exactly the same. Enclosure size, power handling and  xmax (along with the rest of the specs) are also nearly identical. The biggest difference is cost.

Very interesting for sure, what's most interesting, is that with the nearly identical specs, they don't sound much a like. Obviously its install dependent, but hearing both in high power scenarios. I'd say that graphs can't reproduce the way a driver will sound, and is only going by numbers.

Good question. I have never heard of such a test. Certainly would be interesting.

T/S parameters describe the low frequency behavior of the driver at low power.  That includes amplitude, phase and time domain behavior (overshoot, ringing, etc).

 

What they don't tell you is, for example, how the parameters shift as power is applied or about distortion related behavior.

 

If the parameter shift is audible and different between the drivers, or the distortion behavior is different in a significant way, it would be entirely possible for two drivers with nearly identical classical T/S to "sound" and behave different at listening levels. 

 

That said I don't know enough about the differences between these two particular drivers to say how their performance might differ in those two particular criteria.
