Hu might be blown or just alive!

Recommended Posts

Lately my cars "radio" fuses have been blowing not the fuse on the hu but the cars radio fuse.

First time the fuse blew when I first turned the car on.. Which was weird since I never had a fuse go out on me since I had the hu a year or so now.

So I went and pick up more fuses (8amp Volvos standard) put one in worked fine at idle went down the road turned the hu volume up half way and just as the bass hit the fuse popped!. So the next day I took the hu out looked around checked ground power etc nothing was wrong ( besides a big mess Of wires and rcas) placed another fuse in with the hu out and banged on it for 20mins zero problems. Put it all back in. Worked perfect for 4days then it blew again turning the car on so I was a little pissed this time.

Went to oreiallys picked up some 25amp fuses. Placed one in and popped the fuses again! just from turning the key not even tryin to turn over the engine. Tried a 8amp again and turned the key pop blew AGAIN and I was pissed!!! Then 6seconds later I heard the raidio on I was like wtf the fuse is blown??????? So I looked at the hu it was blue illuminated but no display and non of the buttons worked( while music was on radio not loud luckily) so I just took off the faceplate and the music was still on I was really confused. No faceplate no radio fuse and it still was playing then I took the key out and the radio was still on...........what the @:&:&/ is wrong no faceplate no fuse no key but still the radio is still on........

Is this hunk of junk blown lol? Unhooked the harness only way to turn it off

Just crazy weird never heard of such frankstein and ghostly stuff before!!! I think my cars haunted!!!!!

Very bad idea to replace an 8A fuse with a 25A fuse.  The fuse is there to protect the wire from catching on fire.  And obviously if the fuse keeps blowing there is something wrong, stepping up in size isn't solving the problem, only causing more potential problems.

First thought would be a shorted wire.  If it only happens when the car is on would make me think shorted 12V+ switched wire.  I suppose if the radio was taking a shit and had a short internally or something it could be trying to draw too much current.  But first I would double check all of the wires to make sure nothing is shorted out.

That should help you narrow it down between the wiring and the HU.
