Coils reading differently

Okay so I have two D1 XCONs that were both purchased used. One of them reads .07-.08 on both coils, and the other reads 1.0-1.1 on both coils. Both subs sound fine when they are used alone, but once I wire them together it sounds way quieter, and seems like one is canceling the other out. Could this be because they are getting different amounts of power? I've been troubleshooting and am really getting frustrated. I've triple checked the wiring, I've swapped RCAs, amps, and HU pre outs. I finally decided to wire one in my 4.5 cube shared chamber enclosure to 2 ohms and bam the difference was night and day louder. I switched to the other sub and it was just as loud. Wire them together at 1 ohm and it sounds like shit, any ideas? Is the difference between the coils my issue? Both subs were used in a single 12 enclosure at different times in the past and sounded great, and this is the first time that I have used them together. Is the one reading ~1.0 on its way out? Excursion looks equal when wired together at 1 ohm.

Sorry if that is worded weird I'm just trying to add as much as I think is relevant, if any other info would help narrow things down let me know.

Is this while loaded in their box or free aired readings? If in the box have you tried swapping sides of the box to see if that changes anything?

 

 

Might be part of a coil is going?

Coils were measured before they were put in the enclosure if that is what you are asking.

Do you mean swap the woofers positions in the enclosure? If so I have not tried it but if it will tell me anything I can do it tomorrow.

If they are operating above the resonance point of the enclosure they will never cancel each other no matter the difference in power if they are in phase electrically.  If one is getting 1 watt and the other is getting 100 watts of an identical signal, then you will get 101 watts worth of output.  This is how output sums above resonance, regardless of individual power and even cone size...

 

Your problems are caused by something other than the drivers receiving different power levels.

Any ideas? Will any other information help? I'm kind of stumped at this point.

Use a battery and pop the wire from amp and make sure both subs move out.

Make sure both coils on each sub is hooked up and hooked up corectly.

I will try this first thing tomorrow. If it ends up being something that stupid I am really going to be mad at myself and will blame it on a lack of sleep. Thanks for the suggestion.

And the coils shouldn't be that different if they are in fact the same coils. That is a good bit of difference in wire length or wire size from .8 to 1.1

I'm pretty sure that the one reading higher was abused but the price was right, so I wouldn't be that mad if I had to recone it. Again that wouldn't contribute to my problem right? Like I said they both play fine on their own.

No as already explained it won't reduce over all output.

If these are on the same amp the only way the two combined is not louder than by themselves is that they are wired wrong.

Alright then, I am definitely willing to admit that I screwed up if I did. Honestly if that is the problem I will be thrilled. I will update after I get a chance to check them tomorrow. Thanks again man!

Mislabeled the posts on the back of the enclosure and the woofers were out of phase, rookie mistake to say the least
