Amp. for the Ark.

Recommended Posts

:WELCOME:

Well I was searching everywhere for an amp the would give me over 800x1 RMS for my HT woofer project. I really wanted an amp with a passive cooling solution, but the ones available with the kind of power I wanted were out of my budget.

My solution is in the form of a Carver PM-900 amp. It is a live sound amp by design, but I hope to tweak it into a quiet HT amp for my passive sub. I went with Carver because the amp in my car that powers my components is a Carver made in '87 and it sounds very very nice. If something that old can work so well..... then you have a customer for life..... even though Carver is closing down :(

Here are some pics......

you may not need the fan depending on how much you drive it.

Most pro amps only trigger the fan under heavy load or high current mode (2 ohms or less).

For HT useage... I doubt you'll ever come close to triggering the fan.

Yeah, I'm going to bridge it so I don't know for sure what it'll think of the load yet. That part will be a little trial and error I think.

When you get up past the 3-4th green light then you know you need some good cooling
