which ssa sub would you pick for a brz1200 @ 1ohm

Recommended Posts

Im looking to upgrade my subs, I currently have 2 lanzar opti1232D on 2 hifonics brz1200

Which ssa sub would you pick for those amps?

Maybe something else?

I like mixtapes and sometimes they come already clipped but idk for a while

so they need to be something that can take a little abuse

My max trunk dimensions are: 36w X 14H X 22D

I have a powerbastards 220 amp alt and 2 yellow top optima, one under hood one back

big 3 done

Ive been eyeing the fiQ

What's your budget? Are you keeping both brz1200s or sticking with one?

I'd say an 12" Icon if it was only one brz1200. You really only have room for a 12" in a big box.

I agree with Bassink, you really need some extra room for a pair of 12's to fit comfortably with enough space for an acceptable size port and sub displacements as well. That being said, you've got a great space there for a single 15 of which the ICON or XCON would do very well. You don't need to feed an XCON RMS power to get it loud either. Now if the amps were strapable you could even throw a 15" ZCON in the lineup with no problems, but they don't appear to be strapable.

I must of put in wrong dimensions. I got like 3.5 cubes before port. Hmm lol

Ive heard a lot of good things about the Fi Q, probably underrated a little bit, and its geared towards SQ.

Icon seems well balanced from what Ive heard and seen, plus its sexy as hell.

Good reason for the Xcon is that you could upgrade the amp later if you wanted.

Guess it depends on what you want.

I would like the Icon. Single 12" with some great room to breath.

I like that icon you guys recommended but for that price i would go with a fully loaded Q

I'm really looking at two sundown SA, whats the opinions on that?

$300 w/shipping per sub budget and yes keeping both amps

I currently have two lanzar opti 1232D in my car so Idk why u think two 12s wont fit

And my max height dimension are 14", why would u say get a 15? lol

Yea but from the dimensions you gave us, you really don't have much room for 2 12s. Are the amps strappable?

At this point you've not mentioned the configuration of the enclosure you would be using, the 15 would work in that enclosure in a sub up, port forward/rear configuration. You may have two twelves in that size enclosure now, and that size may be optimal for the Opti's but it won't be optimal for the Fi Q's or ICON's. They can be shoehorned into an enclosure that size but the response will be peakier and the port will be a good deal smaller than it should be. The SA's are more suited to that size enclosure according to Sundown's specifications.

The real question is why are you wanting to upgrade? What about the Lanzars isn't making you happy? The majority of the time the biggest reason a person isn't happy with a sub isn't because of the sub itself but because the enclosure isn't right for the sub. What are the specifications on the enclosure the Opti's are in?

oh sorry, i want to have port and sub firing forward

I wanna upgrade because the surround on one of them has a small hole that im worried will get much worse when i hook a brz1200 to it

I have had them for 3years and they love to overheat and theyre only 14mm xmax

all that time ive had them wired @ 2ohm on 1 brz1200 (underpowered)

my current box size for the opti's is 34W X 14H X 23D

port 3.75in wide / 12inches long

it was the first box i ever built and works well 40hz+

i like the idea of (2) 12's over 1 powerful 12 because i believe in cone area over watts

You're missing so much on the low end with tuning that high. You're right on the cone area, but I think we can find you a happy medium for two 12's. Two 10's would work really good in that space but you'd lose a fair amount of cone area doing so. As I mentioned before something like the Q's can fit in that much space. They may be a little peakier in the smaller size (still at the Fi's recommended minimum though) and a little light on port area but they would probably still sound much better than the Opti's as the enclosure tuning I figured for was 32hz. You're also not mentioning probably the best fit for what you're doing, the SSD. They'll handle the amps thermally, especially with the cooling option, have the same basic enclosure size recommendations as the Q does, and they can be bought several dollars cheaper than the Q, almost approaching the SA12 in price. Two of the SSD's could fit in that enclosure size restrictions with 3.6cuft NET volume and 54sqin of port area tuned to 32hz.

I like the SSD's for your application the best.
