Building a custom sub question

I am switching sub sizes and I am going from a 18'' to 10''. I have seen people build custom subs with different motors and baskets. now my question is will any basket fit on my motor with out any problems? I have 2 18'' hdc3 audioque.

Mounting holes could be different, so "no problem" would depend on your ability to drill & tap new holes if necessary. If you can't do that then you would need to make sure the basket has the same mounting hole pattern.

Were you planning to use an AQ recone kit? Not a great idea to build a sub out of random parts like most people do...they think it's "cool" that it's unique but reality is that most of them have no engineering behind them and they have no idea about the actual performance of the subwoofer. Most people with these custom subs can't even tell you what the T/S are.

AQ uses 12 spoke baskets on those hdc3s if I'm not mistaken. You really want to stay away from drilling new holes for mouting a TI basket and such, and using a different coil/drop in. Using the same 12 spoke style and the hdc3 recones is ideal for proper functioning of the woofer.

thank you for the help i was just wondering if it would be worth my while to do and the drilling and tapping wouldnt be a problem. As far as the engineering part i never thought about that part of it. If i was to do this i would put a psi recone kit on it. now i will just probably buy some 10'' subs thanks for the help.

Yes, if they are 12 spoke baskets they are not hard to come by. psi sells them on their site, just do some research and confirm that they are 12 spoke. You probably want to use AQs recones as they will be cheaper and more to spec than psi's recones. But you can do whatever you please to make it work.

the 18's were going to go in my Tahoe and I found a steal on a extended cab truck so I took out the back seat and throw the 18's on there but now I would like to have a back seat again. no im not stuck on aq just thought it would be easier to make them into 10's then sell them or trade them.

^{why not just sell the 18s and get your hands on some 10s or 1 12. They do make recone kits for 10" hdc3s}
