None of my subs work despite different setups

New finding which i find bizarre and doesnt make any sense to me. So i checked the ohm reading on my subwoofer. Each voice coil read two ohms which is correct because it is a 4 ohm subwoofer. Then I checked the wiring by checking the ohm reading on the in box speaker wire connections. It read 2 ohms which is good. Then I check the ohm reading for the speaker wiring running from the outside of the box connections to the amp and it read 16 kilo ohms and kept rising up and up. This makes absolutely no sense to me and I tried it on both aforementioned amps. I am becoming seriously frustrated as my system was acting fine until this morning.

You test any of the rca's or hu yet??? we already ruled out that its not the sub or amp, so dont bother with them...

Just ordered the rca aux cable. I will see what the problem is in a few days

Procure a mini jack to RCA adapter. Plug mini jack into iPod or phone. Remove RCA from head unit to amp. Plug RCA from iPod or phone into amp. If it works, the problem is your head unit or RCA from head unit.

How am i supposed to control the volume on the head unit if i plug the ipod directly into the amp? I wont have any volume control Edited January 29, 2013 by mlcantin

So there is one wire running from your box to the amp?

If so you should get the same reading by touching the positive and negative speaker wire to the leads on your dmm. If your're getting that high of an ohm reading then that indicates an open circuit. Meaning you have a wire loose somewhere. When you measure resistance you're measuring with the meter in series with the circuit, if the circuit is not complete (reading 2ohms in your case) you get infinite or very high resistance reading like you're getting. Check your wire connections to the sub again.

If you have extra wire laying around unhook the speaker wire from your amp.

Run the new wire from your amp to your sub box, or to the other sub that you know works and see if you get any sound.

That's how you can control the volume, also the gain on your amp can be adjusted.

I have seen several instances where peoples rca's get pinched, sheathing cut, the ends short out. Out of this whole thread the SIGNALING seems to be the issue. It is very possible one of the above scenarios quite possibly could have happened to you. It could be a loose wire somewhere at the subs, but I doubt it.

do like breeze said run new speaker wire from subs to amp....if that dont work i'd get a new set of rca's. i've had this problem before with rca's crapping out especially cheap ones

I've had this happen to me twice and both times it ended up being my rcas. They just go bad sometimes if you don't buy top notch equip.
