SA-8 V2 Enclosure Question

Recommended Posts

I have a 2012 Silverado Crew Cab, with limited space under the seat, and don't want to raise the seat. I found a pre-made box that basically represents how much space I have to work with, and it just so happens to have measurements with it. 51" wide, 17 3/4" deep, 9 1/8" high in front, 5 1/8" high in back. http://www.audioenhancers.com/vehiclespecific/crew180.php

I also saw this box, and got an idea. http://subthump.com/Chevrolet-GMC-Sub-Boxes/Silverado-Sierra-Crew-Cab/07-Up-New-Body-Style-GM-Crew-Cab-Quad-8-Front-Fire-Box.html

If I took the measurements of the first box and built a box for two forward firing SA8 V2's using 3/4" MDF, is there an aeroport configuration ported out the front of the enclosure that would work to get it into the 30-35hz range? The width of the box can conceivably be reduced if need be, and if that were the case, one could conceivably port out the side, if there is enough space.

Thanks in advance

Also, the amp pushing the box would be a conservative 1100 watts rms, probably closer to 1200 in reality.

Do you already have the subs?

Seems like you have a decent amount of space down there....should be able to fit something larger than 8's if you went down-firing.

I have depth problems for most of the subs I have looked at as far as doing down firing, and I would really rather do a ported enclosure than sealed. There is really only about 6 inches of depth available, and if the sub's pole has a vent, that is more space it needs. Also, the wider the magnet is, the less depth is available because of the downward slope of the box. Any single sub that will handle that power has too much motor for the available depth, and any sub two subs, say 10's, that will take 600 rms are going to have a ton of excursion, which might cause the baffle to have to be raised to keep the cones from hitting the floor, and that also cuts into the depth.

I know I could do a pair of SD-10's sealed and be done with it, but a pair of SA-8's ported will be louder from everything I have read. I'm trying to squeeze everything I can from the available space.

I'm in the same boat as you..I have a 09 Silverado. some people told me I can do four ported 8's

and your box is optimistically larger than the op's. I think your builder is dreaming and its going to screw you.

I know... I'm willing to raise my seat 1 1/2- 2 inches
