Lol okay.

You really think riding on dirt is even similar to pavement?

As for the bike advice I know 4 people who were hospitalized from dirt bike fuck ups. None who did it on street bikes.

I know way more people who have died from street riding than dirt riding.

Dirt won't let you know how to ride street anymore than a street bike will make you an expert on a dirt track.

The point of starting on the dirt is to learn the controls and feel of a motorcycle on friendlier terrain and a more forgiving machine. It also doesn't suck as much when you drop the bike numerous times because you're new. That way when you jump onto the street you have less to worry about in the form of stop/start and other basic maneuvers.

That might apply if he hadn't had a bike. But I still disagree completely.

Might have to add a little SSA sticker to the egg stand.

That was a HUGE joke btw. Seeing what you can get for $800 or less I don't really see spending more. Where the next step up doubles, I'm out.

800-1200 is the sweet spot for clearance product right now. Gets you much more than normal.

Tempurpedics are almost certainly priced out of that, but I'm not 100% sure.

8-1200 is not close to a Tempur. I own a Tempur, and my mother bought one after we did. I spent a lot of time laying in the different Tempurs and found what felt best to me. I went to somewhere near 6 stores just so I could lay on every model. My mother spent more then I did on her Tempur and was extremely unhappy. She traded it in within her 30 days and grabbed the same model I did. She has been happy ever since.

FWIW I have found their mid level mattresses to be more comfortable, as they are more firm. The big thing with them is wear thin clothing, and lay on them for a while. 20 minutes is easily what it takes to get the foam to really contour to your body, as it is heat activated. If you get a flat mattress, either buy the Tempur box spring or a platform bed. You cannot use a traditional box as the mattress will sag in time.

Dirt won't let you know how to ride street anymore than a street bike will make you an expert on a dirt track.

Don't ride in rush hour traffic, especially in the beginning, when you start. Find a safe group to ride with. I made the mistake of thinking I was with a good group, they were not. Avoid sunrise and sunset. Avoid places where there are drunks.

I'll disagree. Honestly the reaction time required off road and the varying surfaces will prepare you for what may occur on the street, but it will be more prevalent offroad. From gravel to dirt to grass to hard pack you will need to develop an ability to feel the how the bike reacts in different situations. You will get hurt, or at least crash riding offroad, but your reactions become more of a natural reaction rather than something you need to think about.

I have the dx2 guru controller.

I am going to get something and was wondering how well you like yours? I don't need internet control either. I was looking at the BGE guru wich is similar to yours. What size fan do you have?

It works well, now that I have one I want internet control and would pay the extra to get it. I like it, I have the 10cfm fan I think. Internet would let grill with confidence while at work and I wish I would have payed for it.

I learned on pavement, and a good bit of track time. Learning how to deal with roads and other cars cannot be done in any condition but roads.

A twisty course where you cannot accelerate to more than 30 even in the fastest bikes is a great way to learn mechanics. But it's all 6 of one....

No matter where you learn it's about being smart enough to not push your luck or limits, especially around other humans.

If I had a kid I wouldn't want him on a road or race bike period, but saying a dirt bike on dirt prepares you for other cars or how the dynamics of a road or race bike rides is completely false.

Should have come to see me!

;-)

I'm going crazy with the deals!!! Circumstances are unique right now and there are deals that can be done for that. But not the top end products.

Just depends on how hard I can tug on my bosses bosses boss.

Everyone I know who rides insists on learning on dirt.

I have raced both. They are not even close to similar.

Is learning to drive a sports car that will be driven on the road best learned on dirt? The difference in equipment is exasperated on a bike.

Empty lot or track is best for pavement, and empty field or track is best for dirt. But a dirt bike does not handle the same as a race bike. If you try to turn a race bike like you do a dirt bike, you will either not turn at all or end up ass over tea kettle.

How you sit on a race bike is the opposite of a dirt bike. What you have to expect when braking is completely different. How to handle curves and acceleration is completely different. You rely on the bars to turn on a dirtbike. It's barely part of the equation on a sports bike in most cases.

Knee dragging is loosing it's favour in GP but how to make sure you don't loose skin is important, dirt bikes and the road/dirt races had foot out heal down techniques on slow turns.

Where you want your center of gravity is totally different.

I do understand your point, but I am at home when I grill. ALthough it is something to think about. Do you feel the 10cfm fan is ok?

I would actually argue that a smaller fan is better for smoking. Lots of air is never your friend.

For high heat more would be better. I keep meaning to build a new manifold for mine that will accept a quick change fan. Then BAM optimized flow for the task at hand.

I mostly do low heat for long cooking times. I smoke very little. What size fan do you have Sean?

For low heat only, a 5 would be fine I think. I crank the baffle closed on mine but have no problem holding 215. Now for higher heat/grilling stuff I need the bigger fan for when i get lazy cleaning charcoal out.

Fuck I just won't ever own a crotch rocket.

I feel the safest on that most of the time. If I don't like the jerks around me, my right hand gets me out of there faster and around them with more confidence. Brakes shorter too.

For that the ML is quick enough. That is the only thing it is quikc enough at though.

I bet it feels fast with all that weight, but the 50-120 on my bike is pretty intense. Anything past 20 is basically absurd.

Probably another reason I LOVE those small German cars from Stuttgart so much.
