What is Adorama for 500.

Using the dp drop downs I am a bit surprised that the 7D isn't way better. Neither work at all beyond 3200 which I didn't think was the case. Next version will trump the 5D though which seems the same at 12800 as the other two on 3200.

I spent a billion man hours roughly deciding between the t4i and the 7D and the 5Diii. I didn't have a 5D in store and I am cheep, so I ruled it out..... Fast.

Between the 7D and the t4i, the 7D is a bit easier for my hands, and faster shutter speed. It is easier to use in standard situations and CF is nice for ultra sporty pics. I lost 2 FPS or so and then more a lot if going past the SMALL buffer in the rebel. The 7D has better buttons and weather resistance.

What I gained is a shit load better video. Like way way way better to me. Autofocus on video to help me learn and just get it done. It boasts a much better ISO by one stop, but it is noisier. In the shots I took in the back room side by side, the t4i looked the same or better. On video, it CRUSHED the 7D in low light. It is as good as the 5Diii for video until the absolute darkest shots.

Finally, I got my t4i with the really nice 18-135 STM for a third less than the price of a 7D with a deal kit lens and 200 less than body only. So I went that way.

Now maybe the noise is less in the 7D, but I honestly thought the T4i did better in the dark rooms at the store with the lights off. AKA worst possible situation. I also care very little about tripod photographs, but am learning I need to.

After living with the t4i, I take waaaaaaayyyyyy less video than I thought. But sending the couple I made to friends over seas who got to see their niece dance on Christmas eve was priceless. When my wife was sick I filmed opening presents. I completely effed up and backlit everything.... But it was cool to bring home the video. And the built in Mic is nice enough.

Beards and Hats...

You've never heard of them, really?

I feel stupid. Never heard of them. 2199 is a fair price for that lens. It could easily do 90% of the pictures I take. Portraits would have to be a bit far back, but it works.

The weight sucks, but I would rather have it than miss another effing shot.

You guys realise I missed almost every part of my wife's bachelors degree because of my lack of skill and the slow lens. Also I could have used a bit more zoom if I am honest.

The tracking IS function is a nice feature so you can pan and the IS won't fight you.

It isn't that slow, but connecting to my home automation system remotely is interesting. Would allow me to stream anything I wanted to the boat alleviating duplicated storage and would allow me to use the audio front end I have at home.

Parabolic won't work too well although once anchored perhaps.

Might be easier to port forward your router to the computer with the home automatation and audio stuff, then use your phone to connect to your router. If you went that route then I would add a firewall to the computer that only allows your phone to connect to the ports for the home automation and audio.

If you setup a linux box then you could use firestarter for the firewall, and you could setup ssh so you could pretty much do anything.

Engrish prease?

Ghetto Photoshop for the win LOL.

I'm presuming the home automation system has some sort of web client, so you can access it from any device on the local network.

So on your home network you can connect to the home automation system by going to the ip address in firefox? IE: 192.168.1.3:443

You can use port forwarding on your router to forward all traffic connecting to the router from the outside world (internet) for a specific port to a specific computer.

So if your router IP is 69.69.69.69 and it's setup to port forward 443 to 192.168.1.3 than connecting to 69.69.69.69:443 from your phone would be equivalent to connecting to 192.168.1.3:443 if you were home using wifi.

First off, you rock. Thank you. I am a networking noob.

ie, I've heard the term port forward before and even saw it in my HA software but had no fucking idea how it worked. Time to google some shit on PF.

Just have to figure out what ports your HA software uses, and streaming ports for music.

Here's a pic from my router: http://stefanhinote.com/portforward.png

192.168.1.13 is my desktop computer, and I have ssh running on port 22.

SSH is terminal access to my computer, akin to command prompt on windows only it doesn't have any limitations. Running ssh within a local home network is fairly safe, but opening it up to the outside world via port forwarding as I have done is a huge security issue since anyone can now attempt to login to my computer by targeting my router. So I have a firewall on the desktop that only allows connections from one ip address (ie: my phone), and denies all others. Over a day I probably get 50+ random connection attempts from servers all over the world, mostly China lol.

So I would try to find some windows firewall program to do the same for the HA service. Hell the windows firewall might do it, just have to check.

The plastic 50 could handle portraits too if I needed to be spendthrift, and it is sharp. Just LOUD and shifty, and LOUD, and hard to manually focus with it's fucked up ring.

I have seen some shots where at 2.0 it is sharper than the 1.4 and the 1.2.

If that was the case then I think there was an autofocus problem.

I don't know shit about photography-I just adjust the aperture, shutter speed, and iso. I always like to under-expose a tad, I like the slight darkness, and I can always bump it up a little bit later if I need to.

It was across a bunch of users...

I have had really limited time with primes though so I am hella lazy and not sure what to look for.

Hope you get proper bokeh so you don't spoil the subject with a busy background.

I threw it into the street one time, and snapped shots as people swerved to miss the anaconda.

While in high school, I would grab a camera every chance I got and snap pictures of my junk.  It's a nice funny surprise.

I should have borrowed a few teachers' cell phones for that.

Cell phones didn't have cameras when I was in HS.
