Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Recommended Posts

Just received a mystery package in the mail myself. I opened it up and found a real nice thank you letter and a flag flown for me from the Delta Company 1-109th Infantry! It was flown over Camp Virgina, Kuwait. Send from some of my very best friends whom I watch over their families while they are deployed. smile.png

That's fuckin' awesome!

Thank you. :)

Plugs are the same. Both engines use the same heads, plugs, COPs, cams, etc. I use MC or NGK, but use whatever you want. Champion is shit IMO though. And you ALWAYS want to use anti seize when mating dissimilar metal, especially aluminum.

The F150 5.4 I did had a 2 piece plug from the factory. Here is what my fil had in his

Those are for the 3 valve head. The truck you did was 2004 or newer correct? Matt has 2 valve heads.

Hell even the 3 valve heads are the same. You can interchange them all actually. That's what the modular engine design was all about.

Curious, are the intake manifolds interchangeable as well, or are they head specific?

They are specific to the heads, but the 2 Valve head had two different designs and you can interchange them, although they do not match 100%.  The gaskets make up for it though.  Also, each engine size will be a specific intake.  The 5.4 has an increased stroke and deck height, so it takes a different manifold.  There are companies that make adapters though to fit the 4.6 intakes on 5.4s.

Hey guys, I have a KCE-400BT (Alpine Bluetooth Module) that I never got around to installing before my HU got jacked a while back. If any SSA'ers want it hit me on PM and we can arrange something. Should be like new IIRC.

Sean, since you are the travel king, and I know you carry a lot of stuff. How do you normally pack for flying and what kind of luggage do you use?

I pack carry on. Smallest bag possible.

For a less than 3 day trip I pack in a ThinkTank Laptop bag with backpack straps.

For > 3 days I pack in a 20" (international carry, American 22"s will not make it in Europe and some of Asia). My 20 is a Briggs & Riley. Holds less than some but is laid out PERFECT. Lifetime guarantee is bombproof as well.

If I travel for more than a week and need 2+ suit coats I travel in a Samsonsite hard sided garment bag. If you have to check bags a Garment bag is the bomb. Can pack and unpack in 3 minutes. I just haven't found a 20" version of one that works for shit.

I have a separate dop kit in my suitcase already packed:

toothbrush, electric razor (I hate carrying blades and use them at home), shampoo & gel in SCREWtop nalgene bottles, screw top toothpaste, floss, 4 advil, folding brush, and in the winter carmex. soap/paste/gel in a ziptop bag in case my TSA pre-check gets a random flag.

This also is duplicated and lives in my suitcase:

belt, nylon swim trunks, phone charger, green tea (airplane hot beverages SUCK), extra business cards, a few pens, earphones, USB car charger adapter, 2$ of quarters, usb stick

I use a little bag to carry the above making it seconds to transfer bags.

Slip on shoes for the airport. I have black stealth puma driftcat waiting shoes. At a distance these could be dress shoes and are Euro gay dress shoes in the rest of the world. I leave customers and BAM comfy shoes. Normally a set of dress shoes live in my bag as well. And they take half of it up.

I have my fivefingers and a pair of running shorts/shirt in my closet ready to add. Otherwise it is just:

per day

dress shirt

underwear

socks

minimum:

2 pairs of pants, 3rd gets added for trips longer than 6 working days

per trip

one casual outfit

I wear a sport coat for a jacket when I can get away with it. Makes packing my casual clothes easier as new pants, shoes and I feel great. Dress shirts that fit are as comfy as t shirts. Packing jeans sucks as they are huge and heavy. I have a set of fake poly ones for that smile.png

Any specifics on the B&R? Seems they have 3 lines or so. I'm looking into a overhead carry on for business trips (minimal if ever flying across the pond).

Also do you carry the laptop bag and the carry on for >3 days? I've been carrying my northface back pack and a Nike gym bag when I need more space, but I wonder if I would get flagged having my backpack with a 20+" carry on.

Forgot to add, I carry almost nothing. If you don't use everything you brought and need everything you use you failed at packing. The exemption to this is a pain killer and a swimsuit. Hot Tubs are absolutely a great stop when traveling.

You'd understand my style if you saw my wallet.

It holds 4 credit cards, my license, health insurance card, and my fishing license. Outside of the money clip, it's full.

Money clip is usually full to. I don't spend because its in my pocket and sometimes when you travel cash is king.

Pre-requisite for me in a bag of any sort is a zippered pocket for my car key. I've only carried my "car key" for more than 10 years. Just happy now it finally doesn't need a chain and can stay in my pocket.

My 20" IS my laptop case. On trips where I check and bring a garment I have the little thinktank bag:

http://www.thinktankphoto.com/products/urban-disguise-40-v2.aspx

*actually mine is slightly smaller, called an Airport Check in and requires you disassemble your SLR to carry it.

For the 3 day I use this one:

The 20:

And I know that is about $800 worth of bags, but now you also know how I can carry a DSLR wherever I go too.

I usually carry an ethernet cable and of course now have the dongles for ethernet and monitors. About to buy an extra power supply for my pc too. That used to live in my travel bag, but I've been either too lazy or cheap to source one for the Asus. The factory 65w is teeny so I like keeping it packed smile.png

Where are you going, for how long and why?

And if this is not for work but for the honeymoon, good luck doing anything but throwing all practical packing sense out the window. tongue.png

No, more seriously. My wife and I honeymooned in Chile. We were gone 16 nights and stayed in 14 different places. We each left MN with a single backpack that we brought as carry on luggage. Nothing checked, no extra bags.

We had to pack clothes for 95 deg days and 20 deg days.

Evaluating how you will wear what you will wear and how to minimize it is key. Then afterwards you ask yourself the what if and then weigh if it is worth carrying. My wife should have had one more light layer and didn't. I'm a bit more warm blooded than her.

Most important thing you can bring on vacation is a good pair of shoes. In particular if you jump multiple time zones. The absolute ONLY way to deal with jet lag is to get on the meal and sleep schedule for where you are going starting three hours before you get on the plane and walking outside. I normally jaunt a good 8-10mi of exploring after a long flight. It feels great and really helps you absorb yourself in the culture pronto.

That might be one (of many, I'm sure) reason I haven't seen any TVS supercharger kits being offered for 2v/4v motors.

Bought a Mavic wheelset, with Deore LX hubs, quick release skewers and Shimano cassette for $35 today. Now I only need tires and I have a set of extra wheels for trail riding smile.png

The hubs are worth more than that. I have had terrible luck with Mavic, but they are French so that is expected. And really, if they don't do what you need lacing your own on those hubs more than saved you what you paid. smile.png

The cassette is worth $25, geared better for road use too compared to mine and it has very little use. Honestly, I think they are better than the Ridiga's which I have now: typical simple front and double Zac19 rear, both with Shimano RM40 hubs. And these have not needed truing since I trued them.

Do you have a dislike for a lot of french things too? laugh.png

Well outside of cookware french shit is usually fragile like their ego's

I don't like anything french, in particular their cars.

The doc's are saying I might not need mine pulled at all; which is great for me and my wallet. However, this whole teething thing sucks.

They told me the same thing. Everything looked perfect on their 3D X-rays. But you could clearly see inflammation in my jaws. I delt with the pain for several years. I never had any tooth pain just pain in my jaws which was bad enough to induce migraines. I've only had 3 or three migraines since I had them pulled. I used to get them every other day.
