Why detail to the nth when you can't keep it detailed? There is a huge difference in how my truck looks in the winter and the summer for obvious reasons...

So having it fully detailed once and then once a month or so follow ups are worthless? Just let it go and never do shit?

What is the sweet spot?

J

Why bother with the detail if it'll look like crap shortly thereafter. Sweet spot is upkeep and in your climate that is easy. If you aren't that type, I'd just get in good with a full service car wash and get her clean. Couple times a year clay bar, polish and seal and call it good. No tools needed.

Find a car wash that vacuums and wipes down the vehicle, J.

Do that and be happy.

Detailing in what Sean is talking about is paint correction. You use a clay bar after a degrease wash. It pulls tiny particles out of the paint. It doesn't help it look better or last longer.

Once you do that you can polish. This is just like sharpening a knife. You use compounds that slowly buff away scratches. This is the only way to make your paint have more luster and shine.

Then to protect that finish, you must seal it. Wax is the best IMHO, but it is soft. In Florida it will come off so fast.... You will need to strip and rewax once a month, minimum.

So a sealant is a better option. It can last a loooooong time and offers great protection.

You hit it on the head, but clay will indeed make the finish look better. You can use it to remove water spots, overspray, baked on bug guts, bird crap, tar, etc.

Clay makes it look WAY better. More importantly prepares you to actually hand wipe the car and not swirl it up.

What is this sealant?

I feel so ignorant about cleaning a vehicle all of a sudden....

Lasts forever....okay 5-6mo but at least 10x as long as wax. Won't give you as deep of a finish as wax BUT you can wax over it to get that.

Is there a place online I can go and learn about products I should use.

I used Zaino years ago when I got my truck. Since then I've only done washes and a couple of wax jobs. My paint still looks really good after a simple wash, even though I've neglected it.

I need to get in the habit of being better. With the wifes new car coming up soon, I want to be diligent to keep it clean.

LG operating system is sweet. Some features are actually better than raw android. Definitely an improvement over htc and a huge one over samsung

I think mine was just so crappy I didn't notice anything.

My first few vehicles I would obsessively wax by hand. It wasn't even, but it was a protective layer. I would wash the car and then use a detail shine product and it would be glorious.

Whats the sweet spot on cost on the couple times a year? Also is the rate of tip on the same scale of that in a resturant, or higher?

I may need to go to a good car show and see a shops work.
