They also said when it rolls into the store they will have real glass screen protectors.

Why?  Its whatever new version of gorilla glass is isn't it?
Sure it is, but still isn't unbreakable. Non-glass screen savers SUCK
I've never broken a screen and I gave up on screen protectors a few years ago.  My current phone has a sapphire screen though and haven't had an issue.
You have a Kyocera? I've been in the three plants that could have made those screens...You also carry yours in a big ass Otterbox as well don't you? I am a caseless guy and the thing to protect with no case is the screen. I've never used a screen protector before either as they look like shit. The glass ones however don't and will solve my biggest concern.

You also seem to be less accident prone than the rest of us.

I've had my nexus 4 (lg) for 1.5 years now, with no case, no screen protector and it's still good.

People's reactions when I hand it to my 6 & 3 year olds is hilarious. It's like they are about to have a panic attack.

It's taken 4 foot drops onto tile, dropped out of grocery carts onto concrete etc... And is still kicking.

I have had a smart phone for a loooooong time.

This is the first phone I used a case on and the only one I ever broke.

In all fairness I had just removed the screen protector and case as the both broke somehow without being dropped or Sat on.

Wasn't keys eaither.

I dropped my m7 HTC one all the time. I wanted it to break basically.

This m8 is however slippery and not as rugged as the M7. That made my decision for me when the M9 ended up being a clone.

I love the idea of the leather too and hope it helps the doesn't need a case feel. Slippery and no case is bad. I had to have my DNA in one for a while as it wasn't meant to not be. Used it naked for 1.5 yrs though. I'd like to avoid getting a case at all on this one though.

Damn this week has been dragging ass. It seems like the summer semester professors are very unfamiliar with the online portion of their classes. Add in the lack of a real sylibus and it makes me scratch the shit out of my head.

You're doing it wrong if you're looking at that. :P

All this phone case bullshit talk is going to jinx me now.

I've always go back and forth on cases. My current phone has a Supcase and it has been great. Very little bulk and when you throw a screen protector on you don't feel the edge. It would be hard to go back now with the times a small drop could have caused some major damage.

Now if I got a leather backed phone I would have a case. It would just ruig the point of a leather back.

The G4 looks like a phone I could own in a year when it depreciates.

Paying full retail for phones makes it a lot harder to buy top of the line phones when year old phones work just fine.

Definitely understand the thinking. $600 bucks is the price of most last year flagship phones though.

For me, cellphone technology is somethingthing I buy into whole hog almost every year. Only a few times have I been able to keep a phone for a 2 years. Usually it is just over 1 year.

One year of phone use for me is like 3-5 years for most people however.

I consume data.

I use to rock the Otterbox.  I gave up on them a few years ago when I kept breaking the cases and clips.

Yes, it is a rugged Kyocera Brigadier so that sure helps on the no case front, but I'm not easy on phones.

I didn't have a screen protector on my last two? phones before this and never ran into a scratching problem on the screen, the wife and brother have a Droid Turbo with no screen protector and hasn't caused any scratches yet.

I know gorilla/sapphire/etc screens aren't unbreakable but won't a glass screen protector shatter right along with the regular screen in an event that it breaks?

I've never used a screen protector either. I've also never scratched a screen....but I did break a screen for the first time a month ago or so. Just leaned on something with my phone and keys in my pocket. A screen protector would have saved that wear for sure.

A mild blow it would also save IF it were a glass one. A sacrificial surface in my mind if it doesn't change clarity and feel is absolutely not a bad idea. If it does, well then fuck it I gamble.

Currently there are 3 companies bidding on sapphire screens for Apple...or as they call it, the fruit company. Making a sapphire screen that size with no aberrations is not cheap and the flaw detection is not to where a fruit company would be happy. I am also not so sure that it buys you that much beyond a fortified glass anyways. Doing some test work on sapphire now smile.png

Didn't realize the new fruits were that much larger of a screen or that expensive considering I have one in a phone I bought for 200$ from Verizon.

Stephan, what rifle chasis did you go with?

R2, I think you mentioned you just about never shoot at all anymore and never rifle but do you have any opinions?

I think Seth would say wood or solid construction.. But I'm not interested in that. I feel like something I can adjust would be a large benefit.

In no way am I saying that my way is the best way. Using your phone that way it can be justifiable, but its just not worth it to me to eat the depreciation. I bought my Moto X for $350 on a sale, then got a new one from Moto when they accidentally sent me my phone on a warranty return instead of my wife's. It will be hard for me to keep the phone past this year end (the 2 year mark for this model) but I'll probably rode this thing until it stops working.

My next phone it would be nice to have it be waterproof for extra protection.

What is real cost? IMO, Buying price - selling price. If you buy an LG G4 right now for $600 in 2 years I bet you can sell it for $350. Same as buying a $250 phone now that in 2 years you throw away.

You guys are fucking nuts. My $100 Samsung does more than I could ever need. I can't see any point in spending more on a phone.
