You know renting is better than buying unless the area is absolutely fab.

I wouldn't rent in an area that wasn't either.

If I would not buy a house in the area, I will not rent in the area. Makes no sense to me to rent in the hood, but then buy upscale. Rent there first, and see if its for you. If so, then buy a house.

Hell I can find some nice homes with a pool for a few hundred extra a mth. Is it worth it? Eh, kind of. Makes it nice when you don't want to deal with tourists, or you want to go skinny dipping. I just look at the area and what else is offered at that price range as well.
