Okay, computer geeks.  I need to connect to a security gate controller via serial cable.  According to the controller manufacturer, I need to configure something on my modem.  Unfortunately, I have no modem on neither of my laptops, and I can not find any information on another way to do it.  Does anyone know if I can get a USB modem and use that.  I don't quite understand why I need a modem when I will be connecting via serial cable versus telephone cable.  Computer stupid here.

Why would you need a modem for this huh2.gif  Enable remote access....and pm me your ip.....

How would you connect from outside the local network? Unless the router is setup for port forwarding or using a reverse connection.

UDP.. ...requires no handshakes.. excluding port 0

That doesn't make any sense to me.

The Remote Desktop Protocol: UDP Transport Extension Protocol has two distinct phases of operation. The initial phase, UDP Connection Initialization (section 1.3.2.1), occurs when a UDP connection is initialized between the terminal client and the terminal server. Data pertaining to the connection is exchanged and the UDP connection is set up. Once this phase is completed successfully, the protocol enters the UDP Data Transfer (section 1.3.2.2) phase, where Coded Packets are exchanged.

The protocol can operate in one of two modes. The operational mode is determined during the UDP Connection Initialization phase. These modes are as follows:

  • RDP-UDP-R or "Reliable" Mode: In this mode, the endpoint retransmits datagrams that have been lost by the underlying network fabric.

  • RDP-UDP-L or "Best-Efforts" Mode: In this mode, the reliable delivery of datagrams is not guaranteed, and the endpoint does not retransmit datagrams.

The connection between the endpoints is terminated when either the terminal client or terminal server terminates the connection. No protocol-specific messages are exchanged to communicate that the endpoint is no longer present.

Umm, this is RS-232 not something over ethernet. Protocol is UBER simple. Send command shit happens. Command might be "request for state" both literally and figuratively.

The remote desktop talk was off topic.

This month blows. Spent too many months in out business review meetings complaining about carrying the market. My area is getting murdered this month. Not the way I wanted to end the quarter. LoL

Thankfully I have been slaying it the past few days and have all my biz ready to finalize at the end of this month. Personal ranking will at least move up a touch or 2.

Drag them into the street and publicly beat them.

Curious why you want steel toes for school J?

I had a pair of Redwings that lasted forever doing concrete and masonry. Granted I haven't wore a pair of steel toes in 15 years, so can't vouch for them now.

Twenty some odd Schlumberger employees got pink slipped out here in backass nowhere due to low oil prices. It's putting a hurtin' on the economy statewide.

While it is nice to have the price go down we need to be mindful that a spike is coming. Remember back when crude spiked to $150 a barrel? Just be ready.

I have not burnt fuel oil in 4 years, but at the current low price I am making sure my tank is full. You just never know.

I just wonder if we will have a shortage again? I remember having to wait in line like 2 hours just to fill up.

Redwing is my first choice, but the boots I got were >$200.

They fit well, leather was comfortable but decently tough. Resole is cheep.

The top of mine wore before the sole. Mine was exposed to a lot of rock falling on the tops so right after the steel toe cap near the sole the leather failed. 2 years of actually labor. As a job and then 4 years hiking and abusing around the house.

Yup. I'm going to invest in oil next week. It's bound to shoot up and make me some $$$$

Of course it is unfair when you own oil producing land. Not me actually, but my parents and I'll take the hit so they can make some money as otherwise they are uber poor.

Not going to happen quickly. The arabs have to kill Russia and North Dakota first.

Ain't obama putting in some kind of damn pipeline or something?I'm sure they will raise the gas prices to pay for it

I believe it will take a few years before the price of oil really starts climbing back up. Would guess it will be close to 10 years before it gets back over 100 a barrel.

Pipeline from Canadian fields to gulf refinery's. Built with foreign steel at that. Not gonna help much.

I hate to say it, but I wouldn't complain to loudly if gas went back up.
