That all being said, I am contemplating switching to DSL. I NEVER game, but do use VOIP. Need a reasonable connection and am SICK of the $150 cable bill. Anyone want to talk me out of DSL?

Century Link is the local provider. They also claim to provide a Static IP which is hugely helpful for my work router.

DSL in AZ and FL is abismal. Crashes like none other and ties up the house phone. Call the cable company and bitch. For 150 a mth you should have insanely fast internet.

My DSL was 2.6 and cable is 30. So for me it was a no brainier. What is the DSL speed in your area.

I don't EVER watch video, play games or do anything that requires bandwidth.

The extent of my usage is opening web pages, browsing to our server (and downloading but the files usually are under 20mb), and occasionally listening to Pandora

Mostly pissed about the cable bill. Costco is really making Direct TV seem cheap. The wife needs a bunch of channels.

I "need" the Food network and local sports affiliates for Wild Games. Outside of that I watch nothing.

Internet wise I forgot. The kids do watch Netflix. I suppose that takes some bandwidth, but it is all download and it shouldn't be a concern at 8Mbps which is guaranteed. (80% of 12 supposedly)

DSL is aweful. Clear, century link, whatever. It's fucking horrible.

We use it century link at work and it's nonstop problems.

Maybe you guys will have better luck residential in Tonka.

I have nothing good to say about their services or how it works with our equipment.

Who knows if that's our shit network or their shit network, but it a horrible.

The Food network? Any good shit on there? I watch maybe 4 channels besides the local news channels The history channel,Discovery channel,Tru tv,and sometimes A&E..Oh and I like the weather channel I used to watch it all night growing up,I was always fascinated with the weather.

I always though DSL was kind of like fast dial up which was bad (tied to a phone line still)

A solid 3mbps is enough for Netflix (720p) more is obviously better but you need no more than 8 solid, like you said.

Dish is introducing it's own Streaming Only option (http://www.droid-life.com/2015/01/05/dishs-sling-tv-service-nets-you-espn-cnn-food-network-and-more-for-20-a-month/)

Cable should provide the best bang for your buck unless you have fiber available.

That being said, I have looked into AT&T to save some money.
