It's his first high powered rifle. I want him to start out with some wood chuck and coyotes this spring and some deer hunting this fall. I like to varmint and just generally show off on long range paper punching. I haven't hunted deer in 20 years, but he is interested so I'll climb some trees for him this coming fall. The .243 is solid for long range shooting, great with lightweight pills for fast, flat, varminting, and should easily roll off any deer around here.

Hola. Merry Christmas Eve!

 

I got my son a Savage Model M11 in .243 He loves it.

 

I got myself a few high dollar sticks. I grabbed 3 Arturo Fuentes Anejos (smoked one this evening after dinner, it was spectacular. I also grabbed an A. Fuentes OpusX Lost city, a Padron 1926 #9, and another Ashton VSG.

Stop on by. That is about $125 worth of sticks, and with the other Ashtons, Fuentes, and Davidoffs in my humi, we can really suck down some high end sticks with some damn fine bourbon.

I want to try that Padron. I'm a bit concerned as it is a huge ring for me at 60. I prefer 49-52. But it is box pressed and Phil, who also prefers similar rings, said he felt the 1926 Serie was best represented by the #9, and that it was his favorite Padron, so we'll see. I do want to give it time in the humi, but I may fire it up tomorrow and replace it friday.

That Anejo was spectacular. Huge flavor, billowing clouds of smoke, the cognac infused wrapper was honey sweet, construction was amazing, it had the best draw I have experienced, the burn was razor sharp with no need of a touch up, and the ash was firm and as white as a bag of cocaine. I thought the cedar wrap was corny, but upon smoking it you could taste the flavor it imparted. If you can find them, grab them up. They are only limited quantities, and only made at Christmas time. They were reasonable, with the Robustos at ~$10.50 and the Churchill at ~$12.50. Comparitively the next cheapest sticks I have been smoking and really enjoying are the Ashton Symmetrys and the Ashton VSGs at ~$14 a stick. I'm going to run up and grab a few more before he runs out.

 

While the Symmetry starts out with a much stronger pepper flavor, it mellows out quickly. The Anejo starts out with a fairly strong pepper and maintains it through most of the stick.

So I didn't really understand the reverse positioning of the turbos/exhaust in the N63/S63 engines....

That's amazing. Stuff.

If your guy can't get them, I can send you a couple to try.

I find them to be the absolute best value and cigars at ~$20 or more are the only better I can find. And it's marginally better. I may be a blunt instrument though.

I'm definitely interested in what you think. Make sure you get the 60 ring size.

They designate them as "Daytona 660" "F1 660"

I may have lost my passion for finding better sticks after these. I celebrate with a few that are more $$$ but they aren't specifically better to me. The Cains are always perfectly rolled, tightly packed and consistent smokes. They do become more engaging as you smoke them as the smoke builds as the stick burns. I cannot smoke one on an empty stomach. The F1 I cannot handle unless quite filled up. I also find a punch works better for sticks bigger than a 50 ring. Feels cooler.

The Ashton and some of the Diamond Crown are great cigars.... But neither have the depth or development of those Cain sticks.

If I may make a comparison, the Pinot Finish Woodford is more subtle and has a harmony of flavors, but the wonderful mix isn't as deep as Double Oak. Straight up, I like double oak more. With an ice cube the Pinot Finish isenhanced. In the double oak, an ice cube just dilutes the powerful deep flavor. Makes it fall flat IMHO. Pinot Finish would be ideal for old fashioneds to me. But at the price it is, it would be a waste.

And so the ashtons and other hyper spendy sticks are the Pinot Finish. Far from my favorite, but a wonderful thing when I want to stray from what I feel is the best.
