Welcome to the IHoP v.2

A guy I talked to at a competition wanted to move in the same city as me so he asked me about a possible job in car audio. Obviously I won't hire anybody so I directed him to a shop. Fast forward 3 months, he moves here and calls me 2 days ago to ask me when we can meet up, if I can give him some MDF and if we can build a false floor, battery holder etc.

We build a false floor? Am I supposed to help everybody live their life and give away what little free time I have?

That's where you charge him for the job.

Had a similar thing happen today. A guy I know and we've hang out(not enough to call good friends), called me yesterday and asks me if we can do some work on his audio. He cut the card above the trunk of his hatch and put some 6x9, but mounted them on both the high and low ground resulting in leaks and bad looks.

Spend half the day patching his old holes, making new ones, cutting the metal underneath and then re-upholster the whole card... almost for free.

Instead of fixing my own car. Never again I am doing free work, unless you've done something for me.

I completely agree with you Adrian. I know I look at my schedule every time I get asked to help with something and evaluate what it's worth.

Yes, exactly. Sometimes I hate to be know for something. People ask dumb questions all the time and want to do thing for them for free like you enjoy it.

I enjoy it on my own car, fucker.

There's one thing a friend told me some time ago about this: Just tell them you don't want to do it, don't bother saying you don't have time.

Honestly, it seems more and more sensible.

its seems soundstream/ppi got the guys from minidsp to make them a processor (i believe the two units are identical).

http://www.precisionpower.com/html-version/manuals/DEQ-8-manual.pdf

some rep mentioned they're working on android control via wifi dongle, might be ready by the end of summer.

$500 isn't terrible, but i think i'm still planning to pick up a pair of minidsp 2x4 units for half that. ...and deal with the lower output voltage.

or 2x8...

2 of the 4's.

Add a line driver and you are still ahead.

line driver on the input or output side?

tablet -> linedriver? -> minidsp's -> amps

Well that was a pain, Home Depot no longer just exchanges Rigid tools without the original receipt. I bought the first of the rigid grinders ~4 years ago and no, I do not have the receipt anymore, last time it died they just had me pick a new one off the shelf and away I went. So they are sending the busted one in for repair, then they are going to call me about what it needs, like I give a shit, just fix the waste of money, its a 'lifetime' warranty.

I get pissed about the warranty work too. Sucks.

Same here. I mean who keeps receipts for years?

J

for anything lifetime I do
