I have decided it might be a good idea to replace the sparkplugs in the truck since I am doint the COPs.

Maybe I asked but is there any brand or anything I should get. 5.4 2v in a 97 expy. Is there something online I should get or is local ok?

Also anytthing I should know when putting them in? Dielectric rubbed on the plugs correct? Do they NEED to be torqued or can I just twist them in solid but not ultra tight?

I suggest ONLY Motorcraft on your motor.

I suggest a tad bit of anti-sieze on the threads.

you are NOT going to have fun. you have to pull the fuel rails and everything to get to the plugs. i would HIGHLY suggest you put new coil packs in at the same time so you only uave to do it once.

No, you don't have to pull the rails.

All in a days work. I have done the 5.4 and 4.6 and the 5.4 was easier.

From what I have seen, I agree. I just didn't know if I needed special rules for the spark plugs. Special grease or what ever.

The 5.4 takes a different plug (2 piece) and make sure you use some pb blaster (allows plug to break free easier) and then blow the hole out with compressed air. Take your time because if you break one, boy they can be a bitch without the proper tool. Silcone dielectic grease on the little boot at the end of the coil.

The 3 valve motor uses the 2 piece side electrode, not the motor in the Expy. Ford has a bulletin about the plug removal on this so the plugs do not pull apart. Let engine sit for several hours to cool, turn all plugs out 1/2-1 turn, use a non-evaprorative carbon cleaner (I like Sea-Foam) and pour 1-2 tablespoons into the hole and allows to soak for several hours, then remove the plugs. The carbon cleaner breaks the side electrode free from the buildup that creates the issue.

Plugs are the same. Both engines use the same heads, plugs, COPs, cams, etc. I use MC or NGK, but use whatever you want. Champion is shit IMO though. And you ALWAYS want to use anti seize when mating dissimilar metal, especially aluminum.

The F150 5.4 I did had a 2 piece plug from the factory. Here is what my fil had in his

Those are for the 3 valve head. The truck you did was 2004 or newer correct? Matt has 2 valve heads.

Hell even the 3 valve heads are the same. You can interchange them all actually. That's what the modular engine design was all about.

Is that the same engine in the F150s that had an issue with blowing out the sparkplugs? I don't remember if it was a 4.6 or 5.4

The've all had an issue. The original design only had like 3 threads on it. Stupid.

The body style after my 97 so yes.

I did my father inlaws, but I used pb blaster and was lucky enough not to have any break.

If you are losing 10lbs through the IC, Then that thing is WAY too small.

I'll have to test for myself but it's pretty clear, I even had a long argument with a user, he was claiming 25 psi boost, I was claiming 15 psi, turns out boost for him = turbo outlet pressure. 3 reports of 15 psi after the intercooler, 2 of 25 psi before the intercooler.

Shit, if I would run 20+ psi I can only imagine how much more fuel I can dump. And how much more I can dump with better cooling too. Hah, looks like there's plenty power to be had without a new turbo.

RTA results, the laptop was set on a little chair next to the glove box:

Everything closed(doors/windows)

33Hz 112.3 ; 34 - 112.8 ;  35 - 113.5 ; 36 - 112.7

35Hz

Driver window open - 114.5

Driver door open 114.6  - saw a 114.7 but could not repeat it again

Both windows open 113.5

Passenger window open 113.8

Both doors open halfway 109.5

Moved the box to the trunk

35Hz

Driver door open 114.8

So overall - the car peaks at 35(as was proven on show last year) and it's loudest with mic on passenger side and driver door open. And with the box in the trunk it's louder than in the middle in the car.

Driver door open

35driverdooropen_window_99c6a_30555465.p

35Hz driver window down

35closed_e4ba0_30555463.png

35, box in the trunk, driver door open

gg_1cbd8_30555469.png

How much varying do you get in each location?

If you are using the built in mic I wouldn't believe any of it...

0.2 points. We will see after 3 weeks how much that equates to actual dB meter.

Just received a mystery package in the mail myself. I opened it up and found a real nice thank you letter and a flag flown for me from the Delta Company 1-109th Infantry! It was flown over Camp Virgina, Kuwait. Send from some of my very best friends whom I watch over their families while they are deployed. :)

Usual batch is 4 gallons of rich broth... maybe a bit more. Not sure how many quarts come out of my big pot actually.

Works like a friggen charm though. I use my pasta pot and it strains out all the bones and veg. Barely any clean up needed if I wanted to take out all sediment. I don't though and if I'm making something that needs it cleaned I do that when I use it. Makes better soup if I leav it in.

You NEED a chinois.  Allows you to pulverize the contents and get the good shit out.  My connection sucks atm, but I can link you the best one if you like.

Bought a Mavic wheelset, with Deore LX hubs, quick release skewers and Shimano cassette for $35 today. Now I only need tires and I have a set of extra wheels for trail riding smile.png

The hubs are worth more than that. I have had terrible luck with Mavic, but they are French so that is expected. And really, if they don't do what you need lacing your own on those hubs more than saved you what you paid. smile.png

The cassette is worth $25, geared better for road use too compared to mine and it has very little use. Honestly, I think they are better than the Ridiga's which I have now: typical simple front and double Zac19 rear, both with Shimano RM40 hubs. And these have not needed truing since I trued them.

Do you have a dislike for a lot of french things too? laugh.png

Well outside of cookware french shit is usually fragile like their ego's

Actually the design was about rapid low cost changes on the production line which by default of course means many common parts.
