Pipe flaring tool ordered. Brake hoses for the Golf calipers are next on the list and hopefully no other "major" buy comes up.

Hope they aren't stainless. Flaring stainless I'd pay someone to do.

seeing as how it's Boston and all, I'm sure they're gonna blame Baltimore

Do what?

If you mod at all, boost wins

Very tempted to eventually boost the RX8. :)

If the AMG were American I'd keep it and boost it as well. That'd be a fucking hoot.

I went out for a middle of the night sammich run and the woke my wife up to have a meatball sub at 3:30 am.

:-D

Where, how, and why do you get a meatball sub at 3:30 in the morning?

Caffrey's in uptown is open until 3. I go out with a friend of mine who also does not sleep well. He also works on china time half his week.

My wife was getting nosey why I go out late at night and told me jokingly to bring her back a meatball sub next time. Joke is on her, I woke her up for it. :-)

Used her gas in the car too.

I couldn't sleep thinking about the interview thing today.... well joke is on me. Got all ready and drove down to Bloomington, SOB had it down as Tuesday the 17th. I just read Tuesday. LoL

Shaved and put on the suit for nothing.

The new suit with the ultra power tie. So powerful it should need a background check.

I think I found a way to meter, if I am louder with a different box placement without using a dB meter.

Microphone > real time audio analyzer. I played tones from my desktop and the laptop microphone picked it up. It was showing the right frequency and the loudness was going progressively as I turned the volume. Sweet.

There is a show coming next month and I sure will play around with this setup for some gains.

If it's cheap, beware of LF roll off and potential non-linearities.

Don't saturate the mic

I noticed at certain point it won't measure a higher value. I turned down the sensitivity and it's all good, I think.

I couldn't understand you on this one.

It is a cheap build in microphone.

Don't expect a cheap mic to have a linear response. Could measure both non-linear in output and frequency.

ie, 100dB at 50Hz and 60Hz could show 90dB and 100dB respectively

or 100dB, 90dB, 80dB at 60Hz could measure 100dB, 92dB, 50dB or whatever

Location dependent AND orientation will change the results as well. Free field mics are normally used perpendicular to the sound field.

Understood.

Basically I want to see, if there is a gain from moving the subwoofer from the back seat falls floor to the trunk. And in the trunk which will be louder, facing the hatch or the tail. But mostly the last part.

I was told I may gain some, because for lower frequencies(I am currently louder at 35Hz) it's better for the box to be further away from the mic.

Mic in your pc may not show the true result if that is your goal.

I will have to test and see, if there is a gain. I don't want to know what dB's I am hitting, just if it there is a change if I tinker with stuff.

It's basically free to measure, so why not. smile.png

I need a good brand mic for my desktop, but money is scarce right now. Kidna between jobs.

I am like 'whatevs'. If it works, it works.

Move it around the car with the same sub playing, near other surfaces and such and check out the variation. Change the time sampling and such as well. It should clear things up a bit.

Measurement mics are not cheap. The one I have is nearly $2k although you can get by much cheaper. The cheaper ones will be reasonably accurate to within a dB or so. Mine is 0.1dB.

Environment will vary a shitload though as will the effect of the processing you use.

Stupid language barrier. By time sampling you mean how often it gathers the info?

As I said, the louder one may show up quieter on that mic.

I eventually may end up with the Russian SPL meter(TermLabs alternative). But it is way in the back of my list.

Environment sure does play a big roll. Just slightly opening my window makes it louder.

It may be easier to not use the on-board mic. A wired one for easier maneuver may do the trick as well.
