Welcome to the IHoP v.2

Recommended Posts

Tried to climb a muddy (clay and grass) hill today and got denied two times. Both times I had to quickly shift into reverse and reverse down to safety.

At one point when reversing my electrical gremlin popped up, the ignition cut out completely, only accessories were working. It happened before when reversing and I blamed it on the ignition switch.

Today while replacing the ignition switch I notice one loom has different tape than all the others. And a large gauge wire had the insulation burnt off on both ends of a plug. Going back on the rebel loom I find 3 relays and one big yellow plug. With pucking jumpers on a few of the wires. Well hello clusterfuck wiring, the car probably had an alarm system at some point in its life. Now the fun begins to get the wiring back to standard :( :( :(

This wiring problem must be some sort of revenge of the hooptied BMW (which still isn't done due to cold weather).

^ What do you do for a living?

I am a mechanic. Shop Foreman and manager at a dealership group, and owner of a mobile diagnostics LLC which I operate after hours and on weekends.

I'm in the market for a new to me used vehicle. I am interested in a suv. My choices would be a Tahoe or Suburban 2004-2006. How much would you guys pay for a decent used one? How many miles? Is there a preference for either one? Goal is to build a "loud clean system with some 18"s". I would hate to destroy a new truck with all the bass so that is why I'm thinking used would be better. I need opinions and suggestions here...
If competing I would go Yukon. It;s size is more conducive to a better resonance for output. The Suburban is much bigger. As far as Expeditions, you couldn't give me one. I am so fuckin sick and tired of fixing those big pieces of shit I don't even have the time to tell you. No offense Den, but Ford V8s suck dick.
Ok tool people, recommend me a torque wrench. Up to $180, I need it to start from 15lbsft
Do they make torque wrenches that cheap? My most recent torque wrench cost me almost $500. IMAG0087.jpgIMAG0085.jpg
I've seen some Hazet torque wrenches in that price range. I need 20-100Nm, not a huge range and huge torque, that's why I mentioned that budget.

Hazet makes some REALLY nice stuff. I have several of their magnetic spark plug socket offerings. I know they used to, and I assume they still do, provide the German Car Dealerships with their OEM tools. Their quality is similar to Kent Moore and Rotunda (GM and Ford dealership tool manufacturers respectively).

The only Hazet tool which I have is a 1/4" ratchet, which has been a workhorse for over 10 years. If that's your thought on Hazet, then spending 120 euros on their torque wrench will be easy :)

120E sounds quite fair to me. I wouldn't be afraid to bite on that.

I'd spend it too. I'm very partial to Blackhawk wrenches, but I have a nice set of Gearwrench brand all the way up to 1-1/4" and they were a good buy for the money.

When it comes to torquing tools, I'm a Proto snob though.

10 foot forks. Are you riding my bike?

Just rotate them on a straight edge.

I was thinking of using ten foot sections of pvc in each triple clamp as the extra length would make any bend more obvious.

I'm a fan of Wright, but now I'm to the point I'm not buying any more standard wrench sizes smaller than 1", Metric I'll buy but I've got enough sets of standard for now. Any of the polished, rounded wrenches I like. I do need some smaller torque wrenches though, but not enough use for me to buy one.

I'm sorry, but this "blizzard" in the North East is comical to me. They should be ready for and accustomed to this weather. We don't call it a blizzard or severe snow unless it's at least four feet and it surely doesn't get national media attention. Could the media over dramatize this any more?

Good to see Aidan being a motor mouth again. He's been quiet all week. I enjoyed the quiet, but would rather see him not be in pain.

Normal.

And if she isn't doing any resistance work outs.... they are dumb. Just don't say it like that.

Osteoporosis is a huge problem for women and in addition to good diet resistance training is THE best way to build bones. Weight training is the safest way to do get r dun.

She freaks out on you because weight training is scary for women though. Especially at a gym. They don't want people watching. They don't want YOU to think of them as weak. It is a LOT like introducing a woman who does know about guns to shooting. Education and showing by example and not talking about how big of a stud you are and how much you lift will help. Asking her to just spot you might be enough to warm her up, then talk to her later how it's helping you loose fat and keep your bones strong.

The last thing they think is that they will become huge muscle women. That is something you have to work on.
