Direct booking USUALLY got me great rates when I was on Active Duty. As a Veteran they don't do any better than online.

Hotels were always an exception. Government rates were more expensive 95% of the time.

Side note, I despise the fact that the VA will not offer me anything but ibuprofen for chronic migraines and joint pain.

Plus side, I am finally getting a head CT as they think I have a TBI. I think I just have sinus/joint issues, but hey if it fixes the issues, I am all for it.

Cash up front Neal, 2 weeks to delivery, ship to them in a flat pack for DIY option too.  Find a local shop get it cut on a CNC router, and pocket the cash.
