I'd talk your doctor and complain that your medical situation (being overweight) is causing extreme amounts of duress and may force you to quit your job.  See about getting a prescription for custom molded insoles.  Lay it on thick I'm sure he'll write a script for some.  Night and day difference.  I wear prescription insoles for all my shoes and boots.

I still wear Doc Martens for boots most of the time. Might need to look into some timberlands.

I have never had boots as good as redwings. I think they were $310 bucks or something crazy though.

I found they were comfortable, but they fell apart in no time. For the cost of the rebuild I said fuck it.

I wear New Balance 512s (buy them at Sears on sale for ~$40) with Superfeet black insoles. I spend $75 a year and get new shoes, which costs far less then any decent boots, they are comfortable, and they last in a shop environment.

I was please with my redwings. I had them for 5 years and had 3 full seasons worth of crazy hard work in them and then a bunch of knock around and regular construction work. I finally gave up when the soles were getting worn out because of a couple pinholes in the side made them no longer waterproof.

If I purchased those new ballance I would get 2-3 months out of them, but in a shop for someone your size they are probably perfect.

Redwing > timbos

By far. Maybe danners would work for you. Timbos are cooler looking and have the name and for you probably last just as long for you.

When I was doing labor I was 260ish and would regularly carry 100 pounds or more. And then as I got fatter they still kept up.

And what I put them through was just Fucking brutal. One of the reasons they are not ultra ultra durrable is the reason I love them though. The leather, like on the one I linked, is so incredible and well oiled it feels like heaven..... And they make wide sizes.

Anyway.... Now I want a new pair. Too bad I wear dress shoes now.

:)

I HATED my Redwings. So uncomfortable, didn't last very long at all and cost quite a bit for a pair of boots that only lasted a year. My Georgia Boots have lasted me 2yrs now and I'm sure I'll get another year out of them. They didn't cost what the Redwings did, they broke in WAY easier and didn't hurt while doing so, they've held up very well and they are SUPER comfortable.

I've never owned a pair but all the redwings I've tried on I didn't like. There is a redwing rep that brings a fully loaded 18 wheeler full of EVERY shoe they make to the elevators I frequent.

I'm sure it's just my feet. I prefer a flat spongy sole.

Chill, you just have women feet.

:-D

Lol maybe. I'm on my feet all day and have to move really fast all day. I basically run for 8hrs straight so I need something comfortable and easy yo move around in. After 2 weeks of wearing my Georgias they were already molded to my feet. At this point I actually feel that my boots are more comfortable than my Nikes and my Nikes are pretty damn comfortable.

These are the boots I own and I can't say anything bad about them. I'll more than likely buy another pair next year.

I bought a pair of Reebok's with spongy soles, it's a nice feeling, thinking of not using then when I take the bike though.

And I'm going to buy SPD pedals and shoes. Gave it a try on a friend's bike, it's awesome to both push and pull on the pedals. And having a stiff shoe helps comfort on long rides.

2 more years of school, this is going to hurt. At least I joined together with some friends to make it easier, ie share projects, lecture notes...

Time Attak and similar styles >>> SPD's.  Getting a floating binding is much better on your knees.  I use the Look equivalent that I bought used on CL.

2nd that make sure you get a pedal with a decent rotational float, 5 degrees or so.

I got a good wife and I'm ok.

It doesn't last all day anymore.

My rheumatologist is pretty awesome, I will get an appointment soon. I hope he is covered under the new plan!
