Enclosure design questions for 2 Sundown SA12s in 4.05ft>3 @ 30htz

Recommended Posts

Hello all, I'm new to this forum, but not to car audio. I am however new to the Sundown woofers. I'm hoping you all can lend some help and thank you in advance on my enclosure design. What I have is an 05 Acura TL I'm doin a pair of Sundown SA12s in the trunk. Subs to be fired foward and a 6in Aero either out the back or side. I have tried several enclosures with foward fired subs & port, but the car just did not really like it. Last setup was a single CV Stroker12, power was supplied by an O.S. USamps VLX400 1ohm mono. I had good results with two 4in PVC ports fired back, Sub obviously foward. Then tried a 6in Aero out the drivers side of box. The Aero was slightly better. Anyway, my questions are... I have roughly 31in wide/26in deep and 13.5in tall to work with. I have an enclosure drawn up already with a net volume of 4.05 ft>3 and Torres is telling me with the 6in Aero @ 17in long this will yield me a tune of 29.64htz. Does this sound rite? I do want it to play very low!! I Only play music. Rap/Hip Hop/R&B/Funk/lil bit of rock/metal. My other concern is how will these subs like this size enclosure with the brutal power of the VLX? Amp is "rated" @ 2400 wrms @12.5v. Charging system is decent with a total of 4 large batteries and a 50farad Stinger Cap. All power/ground wire is 1/0 Monster Cable. Voltage playing it hard stays in the mid to high 13 volt range. Any input on if this will work fine would be great! Thanks again everyone.

Sounds good to me, if you dont want it to play all hat low I would tune a bit higher. My next set up is two SA-12s in about 3-3.5 cubic feet tuned about 33hz. I also listen to rap and 33 is low enough for me

Thanks, I'm shooting more toward 34Hz area anyway. Brandon @ sundown wants me to have 30in<2 per sub for port area! That would just make my box huge. I am going to give this a shot and see what happens. I see them on youtube with a single aero. Its worth a shot.

Been awhile since Ive been on here but I Just purchased back my 2x 15" SSA Icon subs I first purchased around 11 years ago.
I have/ had them in a 7.2 cubic foot box net tuned to 32 and it sounded great on the bass music and rap/ hip hop I used to listen to but not amazingly accurate/ punchy on rock, etc.
Im looking to only use one of them in my 2010 Ram 1500.
I currently have a 10" JL W7 in a sealed box in the truck and it sounds great and I love it but doesn't quite have the output Id like and planning to put 1 of the Icons in the truck.
Im considering either Ported or sealed. I now listen to mainly bands like chainsmokers, club music, alt rock, heavy rock, and a bit of edm, etc. Looking for it to be very accurate on kick drums but also hit hard so you feel it in your chest.
According to SSA optimal ported is around 3.5-4 net tuned to around 32hz but Im thinking about tuning a bit higher. Ive done some winisd modelling but its been a long time and just wanting to hear thoughts on these designs.
My max dimensions are 20" wide, 24" deep by 22" high.
This is one design i'm considering, is 2.25" wide too thin for port width? im worried about port velocity and noise
      \
Or if I go sealed this is what im thinking.

      Thanks again for any help

I currently own a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier that I am currently building a subwoofer install in.
      My complete and current installs:
New Kenwood KDC-BT378U radio with built-in speaker amp, All new door and deck speakers. (COMPLETE)
Big 3 Kit, Mechman 270 AMP Alternator, (1) Sundown ZV6 12" 2-OHM 2500W Subwoofer (wired to 1 OHM), One run of 1/0 gauge wire complete with fuse and capacitor), Fiberglass Subwoofer Box(Not sure what size yet, any help on this would be greatly appreciated)
Just wondering if all the above installs with be able to comfortably power a 3000 watt amplifier to run the subwoofer properly? I know Sundown Subwoofers are underrated, just not sure if I want to over-power by more than 500W, seems safer to me like that, unless I'm wrong? Never dealt with this much power before, max was 600 watts before this build.
Any other install recommendations? Bigger battery because it is stock? Better springs for the added weight in the rear? Box will be fiberglass but the subwoofer alone weighs 95 pounds.
      Thanks in advance guys.

I just bought a zv5 15 thinking it was dual 2 ohm and it’s dual 1 ohm. I have a few questions. First, can it be recone to dual 2? Because I read some motors are only configured to function on the original impedance. Idk. And if I can’t get it recone, can I run that amp at .5 ohm unclipped on that zv5 and not overpower it? Should I run it at 2 ohms? I hope it can be reconed to dual 2. In need of help. Thank u.

Hey guys, I'm new here but been messing around with audio in my cars on an amateur level for quite a while. I recently decided to do an amp/sub install on my newly acquired 2006 Infiniti M45. It has a factory 14 speaker BOSE system. As far as the audio upgrades I've added is as follows.
      -Sundown Audio SCV3000d amp
-1 Sundown Audio X12 @ 1ohm in ported box to spec
-0 gauge wiring ran to trunk to additional audio battery and capacitor
-6 gauge wiring from amp to sub
-LOC taped into the stock Bose sub inputs

Problem is that the sub doesn't sound nearly as loud as it should although the sound it does produce is very clear. I went from 2 SA12's in my last car with a 1500 watt amp and was impressed so I decided to upgrade power and sub to the X12. I also noticed that the amp is clipping anytime I turn the bass boost over 1/3 on the remote dial which also has the clipping LED indicator. The gain on the amp is maybe in the 10 o'clock position and I'm really just wondering if it's maybe the signal from the Bose amp that is causing this and/or if there is a better location to tap into for the bass signal.
