Need some help finding a nice new sub

Recommended Posts

Im building a new system and i want to match my sub to my amp i currently have. It will put 1200w rms @ 2 ohms and 1700w rms @ 1 ohm. I was looking at the BL 12 and figured since it had a 1500w rms that it would be a good match. Would u recommend the BL 12 or a different sub to match with my amp

Buddy use to run a bl12 in a 2.5cube net tuned at 32hz on a hifi 2500 at .5ohm it was nasty for a single sub really impressed! So yes the blog would be perfect if you had more room I would do a single 15

The bl is an excellent sub, but power match is not a necessarily criteria to select a sub, define your goals, give as much information as possible.

As street said selecting a subwoofer to match your goals is far more important than choosing a subwoofer to match your amp.

Need more details as far as available space, music selection, performance goals, etc.

I listen to alot of deep heavy bass. Alot rap, dubstep, and alot of heavy metal like oceano unearth stuff like that. i actually listen to just about every type of music besides country but i really am a bass head.. right now i have a rockford t1 running at 600w rms in a sealed box. i am looking to get 1 12" in a sealed box because i prefer more crisp bass rather than boomy and muddy. Looking to upgrade my sub so i can use my other amp. It will be going in a 350z so not too much space but i still think i will be able to fit what i want in there.

If you were wanting to stay sealed then the BL is definitely the wrong sub to be looking at. Absolutely will not perform well sealed. Hence the reason it's important to provide more details when asking for assistance in choosing a subwoofer.

We need measurements and/or maximum dimensions of available enclosure space so we know what enclosure volume you need to stay within and need to know your budget.

i think you would be very impressed with an Icon. the Icon has more excursion than the BL, it has a lower FS than the BL so it would give you more low end and a smoother frequency response in a sealed enclosure. both are great subs and both made in the usa, but i think you would get more sub for your money if you went with SSA

i cant find any dimensions of an 05 350z's truck space anywhere on the internet. You think it would be simple to find right? I dont own the car yet, im just researching right now and getting a good idea of the system im gonna put in it.. I want to spend around 300ish but im always open for other suggestions on higher priced items

Wait until you get the car. I can't tell you how many times people do this and then end up with a different car, or budget after they get the car.

I second this, especially since this just happened to me I had a budget of around $300 and after purchasing my Jeep I realized I had more of a $500 budget.

I have a q18 in a 8 cube ported box and it is crisp and tight not boomy and muddy. It is all about design and install.

I don't know why people still believe sealed is crisp and ported is muddy. Most of the time a properly designed port box wins especially on output.

Ported is inherently more underdamped than a sealed enclosure.

That said the issue here is one more of available space as well.

I agree with what you said but I think its more of people thinking the only way to have tight bass is to go sealed because ported is muddy and inaccurate. Which of course it is a lot easier to screw up a design using ported.

As far as space I read it as it wasn't a concern as much. He said he was kinda limited but shouldn't be an issue fitting what he wants. Maybe I took that wrong. But either way listening to a lot of bass heavy music I think ported would be the way to go if he could fit a proper enclosure.

I've helped my buddy with his 350z and have found a single 10" in a proper ported enclosure would be ideal. A 12" will require a fairly decent size box and the 350z has a small trunk, with your budget and power I suggest going with a single 10" icon.
