ok sooo i am looking into a new turbo for my truck. iv decided im going with the mad turbo werks stage 2 turbo with my stock injectors right now. im using my stock injectors for now and im seeing ppl with the same set-up putting 502hp to the wheel. cant wait to get this turbo in and do a 1/4 mile run at edgewater!

P.S just wanted to make a thread on the turbo & injector situation

People keep in mind the stock injectors do NOT run at their max. In pretty much every vehicle there is room for modififcation expecially diesels. Nine times out of ten, it's simply a matter of upping the supply and/or pressure to the injectors.

I'm not a mechanic hobbyist but when does Lean not kill an automobile when in motion over a prolong period?

You have to understand how it all works. Diesel is a different beast from gasoline, and even so, simply upping fuel pressure or a simple reflash of the computer can supply enough fuel.

There are thousands of power adders on the market for every type of engine and many of them do not include new injectors. In many cases the stock injectors are adequate.

I have 200 watts of amplification in my vehicle, yet I have 1/0 power cable. If I want to add another 1K, I simply need to add the amp. Nothing else is needed. The same situation could be said in his case for fuel.

How would you determine a prolonged period? I had a V6 Mustang that had a severe lean issue for over 40K miles. IT's still running to this day.

I'm just leery since our last diesel had a relatively basic chip put on it a few months before we bought it. We took it off, and six months later two injectors went out. Could have just been a fluke, but I'm still leery about it.

come on guys, u all dont think i did my homework on all this beofre i made my decison? lol tyrefire is correct, diesels are COMPLETLY different from gasoline engines. i have asked around on 3 different diesel forums about which to do first (turbo or injectors) 9

out of 10 say turbo first. get the air u need, then the fuel. do remember everyone, i have a HIGHLY upgraded fuel system on my truck. air dog fp150 with 1/2" fuel lines, and the blue spring update. bigger spring which allows (on average) 15psi of more fuel to the injectors :)

Negative good buddy.

Rich kills a diesel. The more fuel, the higher the exhaust gas temperature. And the more smoke. You add boost when you want to lower EGT and burn more fuel.

I just read up on some turbos yesterday (motorcycles)

not sure if its the same for gas and diesels.

But i read something to the tune of having to much boost and not enough fuel you have the gas flow into the exhaust b4 it egnites(lean)

but that you could adjust the BOV to relieve the problem some kind of way.

Then again, i could add a supercharger to my 5.4triton and it still be stock, so yea i would think you would need a considerable amount of boost to have a problem.

The behavior is exactly opposite to a petrol engine. Too much fuel = high exhaust gas temperature = molten stuff.

think about this, a diesel does not have a throttle plate. you run them lean every time you let off the accelerator. same air less fuel. it doesn't hurt them.
