Another which amp question

Recommended Posts

Just getting into car audio so be kind.

I have 2 dvc rockford fosgate hx2 10's (500rms) Sealed 1.5cf box.

I know these amps are overkill but eventually I will be upgrading my subs. Ive narrowed it down to 3

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_23550_Hifonics-Brutus-BRZ2400.1D.html

on my local clist theres a used aq2200 for $300

Sundown Audio SAZ1500D V1s for $275

Id consider the crescendo 2000 but its on backorder..

I'll also be doing the big 3 upgrade. I can add a second alternator and battery if needed, but i dont 'think' ill need to get that serious yet.

Right now im more concerned with sound quality (I listen to alot of rock) than I am with brute force. But i think eventually ill want more sound pressure so I want an amp I can 'grow into'

If your looking to buy something you can "grow into" then id go with the crescendo and wait it out a bit. The sundown is less power, I don't really like buying used car audio as a lot of my friends have had bad luck with it, and I've also heard that Hifonics aren't the greatest amps. Good luck man

What size alternator do you have? If your running it at 2 ohms with that amp you most likely wont need a second batt. Just do big 3 and you should be good. However, if you do upgrade subs and decide to run it at 1 ohm I'd say get a second batt.

If your goal is sound quality, than the lion's share of your budget and efforts should be directed at your front stage. Getting a sub loud and accurate isn't that hard. Your box will have a bigger impact on sound than your amp will. What are your goals, budget, and vehicle?

sealed boxes are more forgiving than ported.

So bit of more power wont hurt.
