Kicker L7 15's [ port placment ]

Recommended Posts

Im building a box for two kicker L7 15's [ 36"w x 20"d x 17"h ], to go in a 2005 monte carlo. not much trunk space.

kicker says 3.5 cuft. with three 4" x 19.25 ports for each. I wonted to fire them to the rear with the

the ports on the same face as the subs, but the 36" w wont allow for that. My problem is the port placment.. What would be the next best place for the ports? Thanks for the help.

Do you already have the subs? That is not enough room for two L7's ported.

[ 36"w x 20"d x 17"h ]

yhe box is a total of 7 cuft

36 X 20 X 17 is not 7 cubic feet internally. Unless your external dimensions are 37.5 X 21.5 X 18.5?

Well if I were you I'd only use one. L7's like big boxes and you have enough space to do one properly.

Gotcha if you can't talk him out of it, just fire the ports toward the wheel well. Just build it with a slot port. It's going to sound like shit, especially with four 4" aeros.

what size slots do u suggest. trying to tune around 35hz.

15.5h X 4.5w X 22L Like I said though he would be way better off using one 15. This is for a fairly high tuning ~38. If you want to tune lower just use a 4" wide port instead of 4.5"

yeah, thats not gonna work. just me, but i have aways had subs back (towards trunk opening) ports up in a trunk car. seemed to always work great for me. always remember that the enclosure makes the system. if you have a crap enclosure it can make the best sub out there sound like ass. i would rethink and redesign

Ooh yes : L7 like big boxes !

In France they put them in huuuuge boxes, on 2000-2500 w rms!!! They have great spl scores, but the subs stink fast : all the competitors say that it's normal because all Kicker subs stink !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They are mad !!!!

I had one L7 recently, and I put it in a 3.1ft3 box (@ 33Hz) : was not bad, but way too small.

I loved the L7 when a friend had one in a 5 ft3 sealed box IIRC.

Talk to your customer : maybe he can accept to use a sealed box for both subs. Or a big ported box for only one.

Good luck, and tell us what he choose.

If you can't talk him into using 1 sub, could you use external aero ports through the rear deck lid?
