2 12" Zcon box for Fusion trunk.

Recommended Posts

So I decided to go with 2 12" Zcons D2s and I just wanted to see how well I did my box. I'm trying to learn how to design boxes better and wanted you guys to check it out.

I want to have it in a ported box with port and subs front firing sealed off from the trunk of my 2012

Fusion. It will also have internal bracing with 45s.

I have 2 Crescendo Bc2k and will have a H/O alt with a xs d3100 in the back.

I want to have the port in the middle but I'm stuck with either doing a slot or aero port.

The slot doesnt allow me to get as much room as the aero does obviously and also the aero allows me to tune lower.

I would like to tune around 32 hz. Does that sound good for the zcon?

I listen to mostly rap/hip hop but I do also listen to a lot of country, dance/techno and dubstep too.

My max dimensions are 15h x 35w x 28d.

I just dont know if that's enough or too much port aero for either design and if it would be good. The box for the slot port just doesnt seem to work because of port area and volume while the aero port looks a lot better, too me at least.

SSA recommends

Ported: 1.75-2.5ft^3 @ 31-37hz

Ported Optimal: 2.5-3.25ft^3 @ 31-37hz

Here's what I got from torres calc.

Slot port

Aero port

Sorry for the poor pics but thats the only way I know how to get it up lol

That is nowhere near enough port area.

Where are you getting .75 for bracing?

i wanted to 45 all sides. I really didn't know how much it would take up, so I put more than what it would be just to be on the safe side.

You are kind of on the small side as far as space is concerned. If I were you I would probably just use dowel bracing to reduce the amount of volume that it takes up.

How much do you think i have currently with my max dimensions? and how much do you think I should have?

How much what?

Sorry i didn't specify. How much volume do I have with current dimensions and how much volume do you think I should be at for my application?

With the space you have I would do something like this.

Let me go out to my car and see how much more I can get. I wanted to build an amp rack behind box but ill get some more depth possibly.

Wouldnt a single 8 inch aero be more port area than your slot port design and mine? yours has 81 in2 while the 8" aero has 100.48 in2.

Correct me if i'm wrong but don't you multiply the port area by 2 when dealing with aeros. That way you can compare it to slot ports. Aeros only need half the port area as slots right?

You can get away with a bit less but not even close to half. Regardless I doubt that you could even fit an 8" aero on the face of your enclosure.

An 8" aero is 50.24.

Yes so what would that be "equal" to in terms of slot port area? Also how come you don't think I could fit it on the face??

What is the outer diameter of the port flare that you are looking at?

And in my opinion a single 8" aero is not enough with that much power.

How about a 10" without being flared? That leads to my next question. How much of a difference is there between flared and unflared?

Your subs have an outer diameter of ~25"+ combined plus a 10" round port = too close to your max dimension, and you don't have enough depth to make it long enough. Why are you stuck on using a round port?

I'm not. I just thought I would get more volume out of using aeros. So should I jus go with what you showed before?

IF I had the space and equipment that you have that is what I'd do. Like I said before, add a few dowels for bracing. Are you good with tools?
