Opinions on having a box built

Recommended Posts

I built the box that my current sub is in now, which it looks decent and sounds good. I have a 12" SSA Icon in it, I believe its a 2.3 cu. @ 33hz.

For me to build the enclosure it costed me around $90 with all the materials. I have an 12" RD Alpha V.2 and an extra SSA Icon just sitting in my basement. Which is why I decided to build or have a box build for two 12" Icons and then put my RD Alpha in the box that I currently have.

Here is my question. I found an ad to a guy who builds enclosures that is an hour away (one way). He posted this link http://www.ksl.com/?...20&lpid==

It shows some of his designs and from his designs it leads me to believe that he knows what he is doing. He said he will build me a box for $135 if I paid up front today and he would have the enclosure built by Friday. I told him that the subs are a little heavier and might need a double baffle. He said that he will do a double baffle extra $10 for a bigger box of screws and extra glue.

I then asked him what type of enclosure he would be building and he said that he has done a couple duals with 1 port on 1 side. 3 angle port, helps push a lot of air. most times if facing forward does hair tricks. (im assuming he's talking about the port)

What do you guys think, should I have him build my enclosure, or do it myself?

I don't know, some of those ports look awfully thin and way too long. If you've already built a box and it was decent, one would only assume you could improve on your second attempt. If you enjoyed building the last one, I'd say build another one. You know you can get tons of help with design specs on this site.
