to keep oem head unit or not?

Recommended Posts

Hi guys, I'm transfering most of my gear from my old car to my new one. I had a 03 tdi with an Alpine HU ida-x305s with imprint module and now got an 12 tdi. I like the oem radio for all its features: hands free, sirius/xm, the iphone/ipod connection. I got myself an Audison Bit Ten D to tune in all my gear and got into an argument with a friend of mine about keeping the oem head unit. He says that the oem head unit is garbage and it doesnt matter how good a sound precessor is, if I feed it garbage in with the oem HU, it will give me garbage out to my speakers. I would like to have your opinions on this subject. Thanks.

For a lot of the same reasons you listed I kept my factory radio and am mostly satisfied. My processing is way less involved than your Audison unit so it should sound really good for you.

AS long as the Audison can remove the factory processing, you have nothing to worry about.

Are you sure the factory processing is even in the headunit? A lot of German cars put the processing in the amp and the h/u has a flat output. If this is the case it is every bit as good as an aftermarket deck all on its own. This isn't 1995.

When I bought my car I had the option of taking the Higher end Fender sound system which I did not take since I knew that what I owned was much better. The oem audio I have does not have an amplifier and subwoofer. Everything is in the HU in my case.
