cant decide on which components to buy!

Recommended Posts

hey im looking for some 6.5" components and i cant decide...ive been talking with some other guys from another forum, and he told me not to really spend a ton on components becuase i will be wasting money becuase i really wont be able to tell a difference for what i want them for. im not going for an A+ sq system...when i get my subs im getting 2 15" RE MT's with an orion 2500d on each...i just want loud bass. so basically i want 2 sets of 6.5" components that'll just keep up with that much bass...i dont want the bass to like drown out the mids and highs. the guy ive been talking to has like a wall of 4 15" mtx 9500s and he has like 4 sets of audiobahn components glassed in his doors up front, he said they get really loud and he loves them. i just cant decide what to get, and i really wanna order them tonite or tomorow at the latest...im tired of waiting lol...heres some of the ones ive been looking at, i havent heard all of them, i just mostly take peoples word for it.

kicker rs65.2

diamond audio d661

jbl gto

infinity perfect 6.1

orion p6.2(my friend has them)

and today i was at circuit city and was just lookin and i was listening to the polk db6500's...they sounded pretty good i guess for the price(like 115 on ebay) but i just read a numerous reviews that said the highs are kinda harsh...and the crossover doesnt allow you to change it or something...

but i really cant decide...and looking at the list i just typed, thats basically my price range(150-200 at most)...like i said im not going for a 1000 dollar set of Focal's or anything lol...

but out of that list, which ones are best? also im not limited to whats on that list, make more suggestions please! lol

last thing...basically all i want is loud highs(not harsh/too loud, but you know...loud enough), decent midbass(i wont have the subs for a while), and i just want them to get pretty loud without distorting. most of those components are 100w rms each, so most likely im gonna run an orion 8004 for both sets, unless they need more power then ill go from there...

oh and both pair are going to be in the front of my explorer, one in the doors with the tweets in the top of the dash(defrost vents) and the other set will be glassed in the kicks.

thanks!

btw-his explorer i posted above is a show vehicle...

his DD is an audi which consists of clairon dvc920, dvh940, srk5 center channel, jbl 755.6, jbl gti's 5.25s front and rear, and jbl gto 10s sealed, and everything is hidden.

and he said for you guys not to be so close minded lol

ok but back on my topic! =) lol

Closed minded, that's funny. Hope he is sponsored by Abahn, even though it still isn't an excuse or logical reason to put four sets in the front doors.

I'd suggest a a 3way component set. HD-642 is good, you can Pm me for a price on them. Also look into a a component set with an added on midbass driver like a Tang Band 6.5.

Yeah, a three way setup is an excellent idea and easier to set up than 4 pairs of speakers????

yea, but what about that flame on the door.

Seriously though what do you expect to keep up with the MTs? at full tilt you won't be able to hear anything but pain anyway.

that's expo5.0's from explorer forums isn't it? i've seen it around. flames look terrible and i just dont like the way his setup looks. i guess someone had too much time and money and forgot that form follows fuction. not ugly design follows boredom and cash.

anyway, placement of tweeters is key imo. i've seen 2-3 setups in explorers with diff tweeter placements. and the systems were nice. sq wise, i'd experiment or check out other rides for what you prefer. but from what im reading, if ur subs are guna be crazy loud, i duno there goes sound quality. i prefer more mellow lows because the mids/highs really define the music/listening experience for me.

good luck with your stuff

pictures are nice, but you should really physically hear some setups.

i've seen one like that, one in the door panel near the inside of the panel touching the dash, and one that was mounted on the column holding up the windshield.

Yep, if it looks good and sounds like ass how is that a good decision stereo wise. Experimentation is the key, I would never decide how my imaging was going to be based on where my speaks looked cool. If they only fit one place then you have to make due, but with an open slate play around and find a good location first.
