Recommended Posts

Throwin a lil somethin to bump to in the minivan I just bought for my girl.

Setup will consist of:

Clarion CZ401 USB H/U

1 Pair Skar Audio VXI65 Components

2 Skar Audio MA-8D4's

Audiopipe APSM-1500

VXI's will be ran off the H/U for now along with the stock rear 6x9's. Eventually will be powered by an APSM-2125 to match the sub amp.

Anyways, here's what I have so far:

Box design I came up with. Skar specs call for .5-.75 per sub ported and since I'm going to be overpowering them I went on the small side. I also tune for teh lowz. .95ft^3 after displacements @ 31Hz w/13.13in^2 of port area. Subs up/port back.

This is the first design, may change before I build on Tuesday. Any input/suggestions appreciated.

Great thing about the 8's is I can probably build the box out of 1/2 a sheet, so if I don't like, I can always build another.

Design #2- .7 per sub after displacements, 15.22 in^2 per cube with 21 in^2 overall, still at 31Hz tuning.

Scratch this design. Just realized I only took out .10 for sub displacement instead of .20.

Design #2- Lil bigger box, more port area, close to the same tunning.

I am brand spanking new to ported enclosures so I'm really asking...Is it safe to tune the box that low? The Fs of those 8"s is around 40htz. By the way, those subs look fantastic, some day I do some monster 8"s, but right now I'm sticking with 12"s or larger because I'm a chicken.

Tuning below Fs is not a problem. No reason for calling yourself a chicken. Once a box is that large moving up in cone size makes sense.

I just love seeing another mini van build. There's nothing wrong with having a good sounding stereo no matter what the vehicle is IMHO. My wife and I get some strange looks from people with our van, but we don't much care, we're enjoying it.

Nice.

Progress.

Got the VXI's installed today. Just running off stock head unit, sound a lot better than the stock 5x7's but definitely need more power. Didn't get install pics as I was in a hurry to get it done before my girl had to leave for work.

Tweets look good in stock position.

Gotta trim that right side a lil more so it sits flush. Was in a hurry like I said.

Hmmm, look what arrived today...

Lovin the look and feel of these APSM amps! Way better lookin than the AP series imo. Can't wait to get the APSM-2125 for my VXI's.

And they just came out with a 2K! Think 2 of these and 8 MA-8's will be finding a home in my car when I get my license back...

Aight, been playin around with these designs for a few days. Just sat down to redo it cause of where I mounted that amp (needed to shorten up the depth a lil). Took all of a min to come up with this and I love it. This is the box I will be building.

I'm in the hospital but I got my old lady bringing my laptop and cookbook. Are there any parameters listed anywhere.

I'm in the hospital but I got my old lady bringing my laptop and cookbook. Are there any parameters listed anywhere.

I have D4's.

T/S Parameters (D2/D4 Ohm)

  • Re : 4.00 / 8.00 Ohms
  • Fs : 44.1 / 45.3 Hz
  • Sd : 20.106 / 20.126
  • BL : 16.6 / 18.9 N/A
  • Qms : 4.39 / 3.83
  • Qes : 0.51 / 0.48
  • Qts : 0.46 / 0.41
  • SPL : 81.9 / 85.2 dB
  • Vas : 5.90 / 5.18 L
  • Cms : 102.75 / 98.63 uM/N
  • Mms : 126.54 / 118.5 g

Outer Diameter : 8.5" (216mm)

Mounting Depth : 5.7" (145mm)

Magnet Diameter : 6.3" (160mm)

Subwoofer Cut Out Diameter : 7.4" (188mm)

Subwoofer Displacement : 0.10 Ft^3

Sealed : 0.30-0.40 Ft^3

Ported : 0.50-0.75 Ft^3 @ 34 Hz

*Due to the extreme power handling of this 8" Subwoofer, we recommend that you follow our enclosure size recommendations specifically. These woofers are made for small enclosures and putting them in larger enclosures could damage the subwoofer. We recommend not going any larger then 0.75 cubic ft (after subwoofer displacement) for a ported enclosure.

6.5" round in a stock 5x7 hole with no adapter? Yeah, we do that...
