Fi Q rust.

Recommended Posts

Been awhile since I've been on here. Had to put my system on hold there for a while.

Finally got my Fi Q installed about a month ago. I will have to update my build log here soon.

Anyways my Q is rusting all to shit. Like I said it's only been installed for about a month. Which has me wondering how bad it's going to look further down the road. Since my box has a plexi viewing window its quite the eye sore.

Was thinking about picking up some rust remover and seeing if that takes care of it. Is there anything else I can put on it to protect it from rust?

If its rusting there must be water getting in.

I never got it wet and my car doesn't have any leaks what so ever. It is very humid where I live thats the only thing I can think of. I will try to upload some pics. I destroyed my laptop a few weeks ago (dont ask) but I will try to upload some from my phone.

High humidity will cause it.

I guess it is what it is. I was just curious if there was something I could put on it to help protect it from the rust.

If your basket has the black paint then that stuff is just going to flake off.

If yours is bare, or if you strip the black paint off, clean it, then you could spray it with a clear enamel.

Just tape off the surround, spiders, terminals, etc.

I think he's speaking of the motor since it is machined steel and the only thing that can rust. The basket is aluminum therefore will not rust. It can corrode, but if this is the case, you have a much larger problem than high humidity.

Clean the rust off by mechanical means, then shoot it with some clear coat. Problem solved.

I am surprised at this though as I thought they at the very least Zinc coated the motor structure.

My pre-09 Q started to rust around the bottom of the motor as well, but not as bad as you make your rust problem sound..any pics?

The steel parts are coated and baked..for them to rust it must be really sticky where you are.

You could knock it off with a little scotch bright pad and shoot a little more silver paint on it if you'd wish, but odds are it's probably going to rust again.
