i'm not saying you guys dont know what your talking about i'm just saying what makes you any different than any other guys i talk to? like you are completely bashing them and you all are convinced that your opinions are the best. so what i'm not a big fan of 18s doesn't mean i hate them. yes i said they sucked from the experience i have i really was not impressed. will i get 18s in the future? possibly. i'm sorry if i offended you buy common now. you guys are no different then people i talk to at spl comps. you both run your own systems and have your own opinions

I didn't "bash" anyone-only pointed out false information that anyone with a relatively intermediate understanding of speakers would laugh their ass off at.

Now if you want to hear bashing: I find it incredibly amusing that one might think of themselves as knowledgeable in the car audio realm, yet don't know what either a Low Pass Filter and Sub Sonic Filter / High Pass Filter are, or how to set them.

I don't have any credentials, so you can choose to take what I say with a grain of salt. In fact I believe you shouldn't just listen to my bashing, but instead research for yourself. Maybe read a book on the fundamentals of speakers and enclosure design?

I know a good amount about audio and understand enclosure makes the system. i'm just saying i've been advised from people on this very site to go with 15's instead of 18s and i think with the proper box built i could run 18's the subs just couldn't be right next to each other they would have to be diagonal from each other...unless that's bad for them some how

Can you please link me to where this false information was posted on my site?

so 18s really aren't that bad??

If you could sit in NEM's 4Runner, it would change your POV.

OP, one thing I can tell you : those guys know their sh** ! No joke business !

It's hard to beleive some memberS, HERE, told you 18's were bad !!! Maybe you did not have enough room for what you wanted !

If you want more bass & low notes, run more subs or larger ones (in the appropriate enclosure), tune around 30 Hz,...

Good luck !

you guys changed my view haha I think i'm going to get 18s. How are the ssa icons? I wanna make sure whatever i get is an upgrade from my sundowns. I watched some vids and read some other forums and 18s seem like they would be bad ass

I would not decide on any sub or size until you knew for sure you have the needed room and power to have it perform properly. Another big question is "am I willing to give up that space for speakers?"

We were not trying to force you to run 18"s, simply saying that they can/do sound just as good as any other speaker.

Based upon your measurements, you can much more easily fit 15"s, since you only have 36" wide.

I would highly recommend SSA speakers though, they have exceptional build quality, power handling, and response.

And thank you for the compliment Aaron.

would it be bad to put the subs like this?

Sub Here

Sub Here

I could fit them like that and could build a box around 12 cubes before displacement

You would have to angle the mounting baffles inward or outward.

When I quote your post it shows you as having them be staggered...here is a quick mock up I did, is this what you're thinking?

EDIT: Keep in mind this was a real quick mock up I did it's not an actual design...the port would look much different. If you looked up the specs on the box it would probably be tuned in the 50's and be like a burp box

He doesn't have anywhere as much space as that above top mount baffle, but if you did stagger them, it's going to be extremely close. I believe the outside diameter of the 18" ssa icons is 18.5"

That was for his sa-15's in that design. If he wants to do 18's he'll have to stagger and do a port on the bottom of the box. Unless he can do a step up enclosure because I assume his vehicle is like mine and has wheel wells that stick out a lot and shrink down your box width by a lot.

Yea the wheel wells screw me. I really don't think I could fit 2 18s in there with any design. I think if i do upgrade i would have to get different 15s

possibly, he might have just cut out part of the box so it rests on the wells. i'm too lazy to do that haha i'll just upgrade 15s, probably gonna go with death rows or xcons. Both of those would be upgrades from my sundowns right??
