Bad ground maybe...please help be4 I go crazy!

okay...so idk what is going on with my system - everytime i turn it up it gets SO distorted I cant even play it..and when I say turn up I mean like just a cpl clicks, like 3/40.

i thought it may have been the RCAs but ran a brand new one straight back to my amp and still getting distortion...could it be a bad ground - that's the only other thing I can think off? it does it with both my mono and 4ch amp...

Sounds to me like your head unit has an issue.

A bad ground will not necessarly cause distorion. Maybe a source of interference or poor electrical voltage though.

and how am I supposed to check the HU? im going to re-ground it anyways just incase..

**what wires should I check for interference that could distort the sound? becuase i disconnected all my RCA's and ran just one straight back but still had the noise - I thought the RCA was the only wire that could distort it?

Easiest way is to use another source unit. If noise is still present then your hu is fine. If not hu is at fault.

Could use a home audio receiver to test this.

this is exactly what I'm going to have to do then...don't have another HU laying around.

Where are your gains, filters and bass boost settings on the amp set to? Verify something there hasn't happened. You could also pick up a 3.5mm headphone plug to RCA adapter cable and use an Ipod or MP3 player if you have one too. Something is definitely fishy tho for that to happen that fast on the volume. If you're worried about a bad ground check the voltage at the amp's power terminals while it's playing.
