SSA Sub(s) having issue on lower notes, poor kay?

Recommended Posts

too much power too big of box = bottomed out coil = damage to bottom of coil = rub on poll or motor.....................

This seems to be the issue. I believe this hit it right on the nose and I thank you for your input. I would also like to thank everyone who actually gave me suggestions on how to approach this problem. Today, I placed my subwoofer inside another enclosure that belongs to a local member, swift. And all seems fine, the subwoofer showed no signs of stress and sounded great. So the conclusion to this is that, in MY application, I could NOT use a larger enclosure. Swift will begin building my next enclosure soon.

Good find, I learned something new today myself about enclosures. Glad you got it worked out.

Can I add that the Zcon was KILLING the lows in my truck. My truck peaks at 30hz on the meter and the Zcon was a beast even on 1500 watts. Great sub!!

Thanks, yes, I have learned how important of a role the enclosure plays. I hope to have a much better results now. Just to clear everything up, I have ALWAYS stand behind SSA and this fault is MY doing and I do apologize for any confusion. The subwoofer is in 100% working condition.

Tune to 37 Hz. and lose bottom end output, hmm.

I'm tuned to 38 with 5.x per 18 and I have bottom end.... even when the drivers are still stiff...

WONDERFUL news. I can relax now. In a way this topic is nice in the fact that some people can see that many car audio aimed sub woofers have a happy range in which their enclosures should be and the power they should get. Example, Dcon's like smaller boxes on modest power, where as Xcon's like bigger boxes on bigger power. All relative to the sub woofer and the environment it is in. :)

and by bottom end I mean a 150.1 at 30hz 15 minutes after I installed the subs. I went on to do a 154.3 on music peaking around 55hz (which is understandable seeing how the drivers are SO stiff).

Now Senchez, as I recommend for anyone with too large of an enclosure I would start adding larger and large 45's till the scratching stopped. I too had the EXACT same problem with a 8 Ft^3 box. I simply added larger 45's till it stopped.

No, the scratching noise completely went away. I played a few songs off my ipod that I am familiar, one paticular song my T.I. that drops extremely low and all you could see was wonderful sub porn biggrin.png

Sorry about that Aaron smile.png As stated before, I was simply asking for advice, which I recieved to try and help me. In the end, I learned how much of an role that enclosures have on subwoofers.

Great idea, I think I'm gonna start from scratch, this box is not the prettiest, although it is very strong. I have recently began the process of joining a local car club, one of those really spiffy shiny ones lol (Project Mayem out of Nashville) so, a more appealing enclosure is to be obtained. I will simply need to build a seperate enclosure for comps, as I've noticed that maybe I am asking too much out of an enclosure to play double duty. Although my ports are easily interchangable, other factors that play a vital role in SPL are not. Such as internal volume, box placement, etc. This is something that Shizzzon has taught me so I feel its best to not try and force one enclosure to achieve my goals.

No worries, I just always want people to have a positive install with our drivers. Glad you were able to get it worked out and it was something as simple as a box that was too big. :)

Great idea, I think I'm gonna start from scratch, ....

NO!!!!!!

Whatever you do.. do NOT start from scratch or we'll be right back where we were!

The scratch is GONE!

For the love of God.. if you get a new enclosure, start from linear excursion!, never from scratch!

With the new box we will shoot for 4.5cu tuned to 34hz, ....67.5 total port. So 15sqin port per cube. This is all after double baffle and braced strongly. Sub up slot port back.

Great thread. The SSA guys are cool in my book. Despite the consumer's error, SSA never once belittled the guy for his negative comments about the company. Bravo for handling the situation professionally. I also think that it is good that other potential consumers read these post as it will help them formulate their own opinions about the company if they are debating whether or not to make a purchase.

I just got my 2 Dcon 12 d4's and I am axious to power them up. First, I need a box built. They will be pushed by a RF Power 1051s bridged to ~1100 watts rms at 4 ohms. Before I make the same bonehead mistake, anyone care to recommend the correct box with port tuning for me? Of course I realize power is way more than they can handle so I will be very easy on the gains and volume.

Hopefully, Pro-Rabbit will be builing this box for me.
