Thinbkinbg about buying a Pioneer DEX-P99RS

Recommended Posts

Have you guys heard anything bad about the Pioneer DEX-P99RS?

It would be perfect for my three way front stage. I love the idea of having a processor and HU all in one unit.

It is expensive compared to other HU's but if you look at the price of a processor plus an HU then the price of the P99RS isn't so bad.

No issues so far, i know a few people on floridaspl who have one and love it. They have a cheaper active deck out as well, I just cant remember if it does thre way or not.

Guys, he needs a 3-way active front stage, plus subwoofer. The only other HU that can handle 4-way active is the DRZ-9255.

Personally it looks like a nice headunit if you want an all-in-one solution, more flexibility than the DRZ. For the price tag I don't believe it does anything you couldn't get with a headunit and outboard processor for less expense, so you're really paying for the "privilege" of not having an outboard processor. And personally I prefer having the outboard processor.....it's far less signal wiring to run from the front of the car to the rear, and less wiring to try to stuff behind the unit in the dash.

I don't recall all of the P99's processing options, but IIRC a lot of outboard processors have a more flexibility. I've not heard of any real complaints with one though.

Until the price of these units drop out of the astronomical range, I'll stick with a HU and outboard processor.

How do you like the auto-tune feature?

The additional runs to the amps versus just a left and right plus sub isnt too much of a concern for me. My high and midrange amp will be mounted under my driver and passenger seat. The midbass amp may end up in the center console. That should be around 6 feet each of RCA runs.

I am very fond of having an all-in-one unit. The price is nuts but imo it is justifiable.

From what I've been hearing in the SQ competition lanes ... This is one bad ass unit ...

I personally think you will be amazed with it ...

I chose my Kenwood 9980 over this unit simply because of naviigation, DVD features, and center channel ...

3 way actice was not needed for me ...

They say its VERY accurate with crossover point settings ... so please do you homework and know what those points are in your system ...

I'm thinking the pricing is around a grand ... give a buck or two ...

Best of luck Sir and report back and let us know what you think about the unit ...

I want one BAD, but the cost of it compared to other options sucks. If I could justify the cost I would run one.

For true SQ, I would have chosen the Pioneer ... Front stage options are endless !!!

Nice small, easy to use, and a VERY nice looking head unit ... Truely one of their best units ...

We have a SQ HHR that will have one soon (so I'm told) ... Cant wait to see it in action in one of our vehicles ...

But for being my primary personal every day vehicle / weekend warrior SQ vehicle, the Kenwood made more sence ... DVD, Nav, and great SQ ...
