help with subs in room

Recommended Posts

ok. i was gonna get 2 15" jbl gtx's(old models) for like 85 shipped. problem is, theyre 4 ohm each, so that can only be wired to either 2 or 8 ohm's right? the amp im looking at is 500w rms @ 4 ohm(its a home audio plate amplifier from partsexpress.com)

thats the other thing, are those amps any good? these are the 2 i was looking at:

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=300-806

http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cf...tnumber=300-752

if not, any other suggestions? other places to buy em? (i was gonna run a car audio amp, but til i buy the amp and a power converter, i think its cheaper to buy a home audio amp.

last question. since the amp can only be run at 4 or 8 ohm's, and the subs cant be wired to 4 ohm's(dont wanna run em at 8, not enough power) what other subs/sub could i get? dont wanna spend like over 100 or so. or, do you think the amp can be run at 2 ohm's? i just dont wanna take the chance of breaking the amp...unless i can find another plate amp that is 2 ohm stable...theres so many different ways to go here...lol

p.s- im not gonna be using this setup for watching movies, for that i would buy an actual home theater sub, i just want LOUD bass in my room, its gonna be connected through my stereo reciever which is also connected to my laptop. and since i listen to rap music, i just want the bass to be really loud. not really worried about SQ, i would like decent SQ, but mostly im into SPL. i was looking at the audiobahn aw122t(i know AB is garbage, i would never put it in my car) but u think it would be suitable for my room setup?

p.s.s(lol)- im also thinking of hooking up my 4 pioneer 3 way coaxiles that are in my explorer(getting components for the x) in my room. how would this sound(if i build 4 6x8 boxes and hook them up to my stereo reciever?) thanks!

*Specifications: EP 2500 output power (1 kHz, 0.1% THD) per channel stereo: 500 watts RMS @ 8 ohms, 750 watts RMS @ 4 ohms, 1,200 watts @ 2 ohms. Output power (1 kHz, 0.1% THD) bridged mono: 1,500 watts RMS @ 8 ohms, 2,400 watts RMS @ 4 ohms.

will that really power a 2400 w rms sub? (for only 300 bux)

You would trip the breaker everytime the bass would hit.

Pulls to much current

You get a seperate circuit breaker for your room.

The highest wattage amp i would reccmoend is the one that suits the woofers the best. As in, matches the RMS rating

Not too hard, but not sure on the code where you are. Requires entry level electrician skills. This is not a recommendation for you to try this yourself, but shouldn't be too hard to find someone capable for fairly cheap. Also depends on where your circuit breakers are as you have to run wire to it from the room in question.

some guy on the12volt.com read the specs for that 2400w amp and said

"it draws just under 10 amps at 120 volts, if the breaker on the circuit is higher than 10 amps and the other plugs on the circuit aren't already overloaded, then you should be fine."

10 amps plus whatever else is on the curcuit.

Most circuits are 10-20A

Minus the kitchen and laundry room, probably the garage as well

I might be dealing with this issue next year so I am curious as to how this will turn out,

my set up will be in a large open room but limited (due to the arsnel of baby things) as to where to place the sub
