Single 12" sub

Recommended Posts

Hey guys it's my first post here. I'm trying to "upgrade" from 2 IDQ 12 v3's in a sealed box. Basically I'm changing my setup to 1 12 instead of 2 because I can't fit a ported box for 2 12's in my trunk and the output of them sealed isn't cutting it for me so trying to find a single sub solution. The sub would be powered off a SAX-1200D and my budget is whatever I can sell the 2 IDQ's for hopefully in the $300-400 range. I pretty much narrowed it down to the SSA ICON and the Fi Q. Any comments on which sub will get louder off 1200 watts, dig deeper, and take a daily beating. Any other suggestions would be appreciated

Not trying to be a jerk, but are you sure you can't fit a dual 12 ported box? What do you drive? I'm curious because the two IDQ's ported would probably make you happy.

I drive a Camry but have a little false floor with the spare still in. So it's raised maybe 3" or so? I mean I could shove a 5 cu ft box in there but don't really want to. Plus for the hr or two I did play with the subs they weren't taking the 1200 watts to nicely and that was in a small sealed box. I doubt they'd take that kind of power in a ported box.

How'd your Icon take the power? What kind of box did you have it in?

You should be able to get a ported box in easily. Also IDQ's should not have any problem taking 600 rms each.

I guess I could shove it in there. I have max right now 40 (L)x 14 (H)x 20 (D). If I gave both subs 2.2 cu each tuned to 27 hz the box is going to be about 5.5 cu ft (slot port). I guess I could do that probably would be louder than a single 12. Might as well try it out see if I can deal with no more trunk space.

OP, you can check out my build log, I am using a single ICON on a AQ1200 and couldn't be happier, of course unless I had more :P

Ok thanks guys. I'm going to throw those IDQ's in a 4.4 cu ft ported box at 28 hz tomorrow and see how that goes. If I still don't like it probably going to look into an ICON.

Good idea! 28 is a very low tuning though. Let us know how it turns out. :fing34:

28hz is very low indeed.. Im interested. Lets hope you listen to nothing but rap, hitting those higher notes is going to be hard.

even for most rap you dont need a tuning that low. low to mid 30's would be more appropriate.
