Using a larger enclosure with more than rated power? Not smart.

Im having to use a bigger box due to more power.

As Duran already stated, you kinda got that one backwords.... if you are worried about having too much power, you should run a smaller box. Not bigger.

My box is going to be 1.20-1.30cubes per sub. Each sub at 375w (rated 300w)

Thats bad?

Well, Aaron (Denim) suggested that for you to use the standard size enclosure, not the optimal. That's something to take into consideration. You may not have any trouble at all if you run them at 1.3 cubes each with 375 to each sub. Just listen for abuse.

But in general, the concept is that more power and a larger box can be a dangerous combination. Usually folks use a larger box to counter the fact that they have less power. That's all I'm saying :)

If you didn't know, Aaron is the VP of SSA. I think....

So what I meant was that his words should have a little more weight to them since he hopefully knows more about the DCON than the average joe.

That's me. ;) Maybe it is time to change my user name on here too.

Yes, the guys are correct, the larger enclosures are a little more efficient. This is mostly due to less air spring on the cone of the driver (kind of think of it like back pressure on an engine from an exhaust) so less power is needed to reach similar output. With that said, less of it from a larger enclosure, means that it is harder for the motor to control the cone, which will make the chances of damage to the driver under heavy usage, a little higher.

Usually my preference is less power, more enclosure. But because you are going more power, go with something close to the smaller suggested enclosure. In my findings, with the Dcon, the difference in sound between the two enclosure designs is almost impossible to hear. There may be a slightly stronger peak in the smaller enclosure, but that can be effected by a number of other things.

Hope that helps. :)

One thing at a time LOL i still have to figure out what all the fancy gadgets do and hook it up first :dancing:

Theres just one thing im afraid of is that im suppling more watts to the sub than what their rated at. But i hope its not that big of a increase to do any damage. Just going to start off by turning my gain down and go from there
