100wrms per channel or total?

I have a JL XD400/4, it is 75Wx4 @ 4ohm, fantastic amp. Very small and can be bought for under 3 bones.

My type R's are only 100rms each. The S takes less.

So your using exactly 100watts to each? Even when you turn the volume down? :)

No the gain is set to 80 watts per channel. 320rms total @ 80% volume and goes down from there. :lol2:

yes, I need all the juice baby PICT4561.jpg

More headroom is never a bad thing as it allows better dynamic range and the ability to set the gain lower, which means a lower noise floor. That said, more power will increase the size of the amplifier in most cases (barring a substantial difference in efficiency, of course) and if the goal is to fit it in the dash, he'll probably be looking at double-digits per channel.

Another option on those old CRXs would be under the dash-board in the center. Would allow more space, IIRC.

Thats what he wants to do I was just questioning his rms per speaker rating. :fing34:

i was thinking of putting in the same spot your talking about...i just want something with a small foot print for power (so i dont have to run 4 ga wire to it)

the whole thing that got my idea on this was the alpine power pack....i seen one at best buy when walking around in there...i was looking for something with a little more power but about the same size would be nice or a small four channel amp

I have used a hiltron amp before but not many features on it. Sonic electronix on the internet. Smallest is 4x50rms a channel.

I know it's not 4 channel but have you looked at the sound digital sd250.2 it's the size of a wallet, class d so it's pretty efficient.
