Come tell me what to spend my money on

Recommended Posts

So here's the lowdown, I have a 93 Subaru legacy sedan and I'm looking for a sub and an amp.About 70% of what i listen to is metal, and the other 30% is mostly dubstep with a bit of rap thrown in on the rare occasion.Basically i want something that will sound good with the double bass and fast bass lines in metal, but still have some thump for dubstep.Looking to keep it under $400 for both.I've been seriously considering a dcon 12,but i saw a vendor selling an open box sa-12 in the classifieds.I'd like some good sq but in not an audiophile, if it will sound good with music I'd be more than happy.

I would like to recommend the DCON or Fi X series subs. Both are great performers and don't need tons of power to accomplish it either. The SA-12 would do you very well also, as would quite a few other's.

As far as amps, I'll leave that to someone else. Something like the Sundown 125.2 is a good match for those bridged, but it lacks a sub-sonic filter which isn't ideal if you plan on putting the sub in a ported enclosure. I recently sold and installed a pair of 10" Fi Black Fiday X subs and a Sundown 100.2 in a friend's truck in a prefabbed Memphis slot ported enclosure that he had bought. Those little 10's absolutely kick ass on the 400 watts they're getting, even ran his 'ol lady and her friend out of the truck once. Luckily the tuning ended up in the 30hz area so not having an SSF shouldn't hurt him too bad and he knows how to listen for stress anyway. The point is, one of these lower power rated subs will do fantastic in the right box and won't need a big amp to do it.

Thanks for the info man.The Fi x interested me as well.Originally i was planning on going sealed, but i keep hearing that a correctly built ported box will sound close to a sealed and be louder so i might go that route.I'm new to all the non mainstream brands so the advice is very welcomed.

The enclosure will make a huge difference. Custom build/designed enclosure for your application and product will net amazing results. Prefab sealed enclosures are "ok" if they work per your application and with in the specs of the sub. Prefab ported are typically frowned upon as ported enclosures are not exactly universal.

Depending on the space you have to work with and budget, there are many options out there to fit with in the limits that you have.
